Codemasters claim to have created the most realistic damage engine in racing game history. The Terminal Damage engine will seriously affect the way your machine performs. Windows will smash, doors can be ripped off and a head on collision will end your race. There are no longer fake restarts - a serious crash will cause you to restart the entire race.
Racers get both audio and visual cues when damage is inflicted. In addition to the detailed body-panel deformation, paint chips and bits lying on the race track, drivers will be able to hear the gearbox dropping gears, engine clanking, brakes screaming and other internal malfunctions. When your car hurts, you'll know all about it.
You won't be punished too much, however. "Race Over" means just that, but only for that race. The save system in V8 Supercars 2 saves after every event, so you'll only have to re-run that one race you really screwed up in order to progress.
The damage models are based on observations of real life motor sports crashes, with literally thousands of deformation points. Consequences from collisions are calculated in real time, so the effects on your machine will be apparent when the accident occurs.
Here's a rundown of the Terminal Damage Engine
- Serious collisions result in terminal damage. Your race is over. Re-start.
- All materials react realistically: glass shatters, metal crumples, and plastic explodes.
- Superb particle effects, with paint chips, dust, dirt and glass all flying from your vehicle on impact.
- Based on real-life motorsports crashes.
- All damage can be seen, heard and felt. But not ignored.
- Save system ensures it's tough, but fair: you can restart any race.
V8 Supercars 2 is due for release in April.
