Halo 2 will support over 16 players online

Xbox News | The eagerly-awaited sequel to the Xbox's best title will support more than the usual Xbox Live limit of 16.
J Allard, Vice President Xbox Division has said that Halo 2 will feature greater support than the average Xbox Live title.

When asked why Xbox Live! games have a maximum of 16 players, even though the PC versions of its games can support up to 64, Allard replied that Halo 2 would allow for more then 16 players online and stated that the limit is typically due to allocating a certain amount of bandwidth for speech. We assume that this feature will be able to be switched off to allow battles on a larger scale.

Bungie have said the game will not be ready this year in any territory, so the wait is on.

What I want to know is if you can play co-op with 1 person on each machine and a tv each.

I'd be willing to bet that your suggestion has been implemented, or at least discussed over at Bungie.

It's not the kind of feature you'd want to announce early, only to nix the mode due to time constraints or infeasibility.
