NHL 2K6 information

Xbox News | The NHL is back, and with it comes the next NHL 2K update.
ESPN NHL 2K5 was very much appreciated in a world without the NHL over the past 12 months. Despite some saving glitches, the budget price point and fantastic gameplay made it an essential purchase for all hockey fans.

Visual Concepts (and subsequently, Kush Games) became a part of Take Two last year after being sold from Sega. On top of that, the series has lost the valuable ESPN license, forcing the title to be shortened to NHL 2K6. This will no doubt result in much confusion when compared to EA's NHL 2006. Still, at least that means the constant playing of the ESPN theme will be toned down, though.

Take Two have today unveiled some key new features in the game, specifically the franchise mode. Would-be managers can gauge their team's chemistry, as well as force them to practice. Nicely.

In the practice mode, you can do a variety of nifty things. Players in your team can be made to practice on a specific attribute, such as shooting or general defence. You don't want them to train too hard through, otherwise they will suffer fatigue. As well as this, different lines can have a scrimmage, with the winning team receiving a healthy chemistry increase.

This sight still feels like a dagger in the heart to our editor.

Chemistry is usually overlooked in sports games - not so here. The coaching staff of your team will provide you with updates on the chemistry of each line and the team in general. Very interesting, indeed.

Fingers crossed NHL 2K6 makes it to PAL regions in Q3 on Xbox and PS2- although after the last game's constant delays, we aren't holding our breath. An Xbox 360 version is also expected on the console's launch. In the mean time, you can have a squiz at the latest pictures in our media panel.
