Microsoft today announced the first European Halo 2 Championship, which is to take place over the Xbox’s online gaming service Xbox Live!.

As of today (March 7), gamers have two weeks to register for the first stage of the Champion ship, with registration concluding on March 20th. To register yourself into the tournament simple follow the prompts at the following link here. Once registered, gamers can begin their journey to fight their way to the top of the Rumble Pit Leaderboard. Sign into Xbox Live, select OptiMatch and start playing in the Rumble Pit. The top eight eligible players, at the end of March 20, will win a place at the UK final, where these eight players will then battle it out in the second stage of the tournament, which takes place on Saturday April 9, 2005.

To be eligible, gamers should subscribe to Xbox Live, be over 16 and be in one of the participating European countries – UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland.

Whoever is lucky enough to win the second stage of the tournament will claim the title of UK Halo 2 Champion, a Samsung digital camcorder worth more than £400, a special edition half-sized Master Chief statue worth around £350, and a Halo 2 Championship Plague and commemorative T-shirt.
