Halo 2 pre-orders surpass 1.5 million

Xbox News | Bungie’s epic sequel looks to break all records.
Halo 2 is set to break all records with its pending release on November 9. Pre-orders in the US alone have breached the 1.5 million mark with just under 3 weeks until its official launch. With sales figures set to climb, Halo 2 looks to smash all records for the entertainment revenue in 24 hours, currently held by such smash hit films as Spider-man 2, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Matrix: Reloaded.

So much money needlessly wasted.. icon_razz.gif

it's a pity all that piracy spoilt sales...

it's good to see a game taking on movies in terms of speediest revenue raised, but i don't really think it's in the same league yet, since a movie ticket is still 1/8th of the price of a game...

Yeah, but you can't really compare like that...
You effectively "rent" a movie when you go to see it in a cinema; you don't get to keep it. You get to keep games once you buy them. So comparing the price of a game with that of a movie ticket is probably a little unfair. icon_kero.gif
Maybe with a DVD. icon_kero.gif

I don't see what the fuss is about - Vice City holds the record at nearly four million...

Microsoft would like to dispute the figure, but even a speculated 4 million places the game well above the 3.5 million mark. I'm still confirming that figure with Rockstar, though.

Could we please aspire to slightly more research news reporting than just repeating what other sites are assuming?

Noogle, I completely agree with you.

I have my Halo 2 pre-order down, but this spin doctoring by Microsoft is annoying. Halo 2 isn't even close to breaking video game records ....

- In the U.S GTA Vice City, 4 million pre orders (even if u halve that, it still ranks #1)
- In the U.S., Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green each received over 1 million pre-orders
- In Japan Dragon Quest VII sold over 3 million pre-orders

The list goes on ...do a bit of decent research and you'll see.

An informative and very interesting Guest Post. Is this a new trend?

Break all records? The first game sold only 5 million copies worldwide! Every Mario game has sonld that many! (SMB1 sold more then ten times that ammount). Even Goldeneye sold twice Halo 1.

I suppose the pre-orders are because xbox owners have been waiting 3 years for a second good game on the machine.
