So what exactly is Dead or Alive: Ultimate? Team Ninja have listened to the requests of fans and Dead or Alive: Ultimate features the original Sega Saturn version of Dead or Alive and a completely redesigned Dead or Alive 2. Obviously not content with just a remake though, Team Ninja have included Xbox exclusive features. Dead or Alive: Ultimate will feature new costumes, new battle stages, interactive environments and a new opening movie. There is enough included in this collection to justify a purchase for those who picked up Dead or Alive 2: Hardcore on the Playstation 2. Team Ninja have described the title as a completely new experience.
Dead or Alive 3 was a graphical showcase on the Xbox and Dead or Alive: Ultimate seems to be no exception. Team Ninja have reworked the graphics engine and it seems like Dead or Alive: Ultimate will actually manage to look better than its predecessor. In the media panel we have three screenshots that highlight how much Dead or Alive has changed. The environments look incredibly detailed and the character’s look more realistic than ever before.
A lot of people played Dead or Alive 3 without playing the two previous titles and Dead or Alive: Ultimate will provide an informative back story. Dead or Alive Ultimate will feature never-before seen episodes from the characters' pasts and new details surrounding the characters revealed for the first time. Why was Ayane born and what was the meaning of the flower in Kasumi's ending? These questions and more will all become clear in Dead or Alive Ultimate, it seems like Team Ninja were always planning to re-make the title.
The main attraction of Dead or Alive: Ultimate will be the online play. Gamers will have the opportunity to play against other Dead or Alive fans online over Xbox Live. When Dead or Alive: Ultimate was first announced it was set to be the first 3-D online fighter. Unfortunately, due to delays the title of “first online 3-D fighter” will now go to Mortal Kombat: Deception. isn’t exactly a tragedy but is a bit of a disappointment.
Dead or Alive: Ultimate is still at least six months away from release (currently scheduled for February, 2005) and Tecmo and Team Ninja will keep revealing new information about the game slowly. What has been revealed so far is just a small amount of what we should expect when Dead or Alive: Ultimate launches next year. Customers who pre-order in the United States receive a Dead or Alive pack, this is currently unconfirmed for PAL regions but we’ll keep you informed.
PALGN will have more information on Dead or Alive: Ultimate as soon as it becomes available.
