AFL Live 2005 announced

Xbox News | Yet another AFL title due out next year for the PS2 and Xbox. First details inside.
IR Gurus has today announced the development of a new title in the AFL Live series, AFL Live 2005.

AFL Live 2005 is scheduled for release in April 2005 (yes that's ten months away) and will hopefully be one of the biggest updates to the AFL Live franchise yet. With the last two AFL Live games recieving 2.0 and 3.0 respectively on this site we are hoping that IR gurus make significant improvements to the title. Some of the details unveiled so far include:

  • All New Gaming AI
  • New Team and Individual Player tactics
  • "Rough Play" with realistic on-field play
  • Online multiplayer gaming with Xbox Live (about time)
  • Player fatigue
  • Refined player collisions
  • New ball physics
  • Updated high polygon/detailed player models
  • Individual player faces for key players
  • Heritage jumpers for all 16 teams
  • Real time lighting and shadows on players
  • Decals such as mud and bandages on players throughout the match
  • Expanded motion capture player animations
  • Updated 3D Graphics
  • 9 realistic football stadiums
  • MCG will be updated to reflect the current state
  • New weather effects such as improved rain
  • Improved animation blending
  • User controlled replay system
  • Cinematic in-game replays
  • Commentary by Dermott Brereton, Denis Commeti and Dipper
  • Expanded commentary and sideline comments
  • Multiple in-game and out-game production values
  • Multiple camera modes
  • National Anthem during finals games
  • Added cheats, video unlocks and modes
  • Dynasty mode - continuous season play up to 10 years
  • Full 2005 fixture and player list
  • AFL tribunal with reports and suspensions
  • Player trading at end of season
  • Individual user profiles
  • Match statistics.

We must admit that these additions all sound great but will be in vain if the gameplay does not improve. Considering AFL Live: Premiership Edition was released a mere two months ago we are surprised IR Gurus would announce a sequel so quickly.

AFL Live 2005 will be released on the PS2, Xbox and PC in April 2005. PALGN will have more news on it as it comes to hand.

Ok here are my suggestions.

1. Sliding- If it's raining in game you should be able to slide n slip or fall

2. Injuries- Minor injuries should be more frequent and major ones should be as well. Also put season ending injuries like knee reconstructions in there. Have the serious injuroes go from 0 to 16 weeks.

3. Training- Skill stats should be able to be increased depending on overall talent depending on what training they do and there injuries. These stats should also fluxtuate deping on injuries, Like NBA Live 2004.

4. Trading & Coaches- Trading should be made as realistic as possible and coaches should also come and go depending on the circumstances of the team. I believe you should have control over the coaches leaving or staying, for instance Kevin Sheedy will never be sacked from Essondon nor would he leave.

5. Dynasty Mode- I think they should allow you to be able to control the whole leage, for instance play all the teams at once, sorry am a control freak. I like it to make sure all the stats are as realistic as possible and usually if the pc controls the teams it's not.

6. Game play- Make it so you can play a full game and it stat counts are like a real game. How do you do this? Make sure the speed is realistic and the game play is as realistic as possible. Also tone down the speccies, in a real game you'll be lucky if ya get one. Different out comes to different circumstance should be taken into account. Like Touching the ball instead of trying to mark it, diving for it and trying to touch it, knocking it forward, different sorta kicks along the ground, knocking it to the boundry line, or little taps along the ground by running up right so that the ball eventually can be taken into the players hands.

7. Entended game play- Body clashes are the most important thing. This game should be based on full body contact style of game play, like when a pack comes together the bodies when they hit each other should have different reactions according to body strenght and skill. It is important for players of the same team to be able to collide as well, like when hip and shouldered or when they are marking in a pack. Wrestling for marks and jumper holding should also be put in it. Also Bleeding should be a part of the fame as well, blood rule rulez!

8 Ext Game play- It's important to put concussions in the game, obviously different levels of concussion is what would best depending on where they were hit and the strenght of the two players colliding ect... kicking into the man on the mark is another, touching the ball when it is kicked, diving on the ball in packs and then either handballing it from groundm knocking it forward or pulling it under or other players stackin ontop of that player that dived on it. The ball should have and endless array of scenario's where it could end up, not the crappy either it stays in the players hand or it comes out in the same direction every time.

9. Rough play- AFL is a rough sport and this doesn't show in the other previous games. Head high tackles, hip and shoulders to the head, Punches to the face disguised as going for the ball, wrestling, jumper punches, falling on the player that marked it, fighting, tripping should all be position and in reality most teams miss just as much as they hit set shots for goal. I'd almost prefer the computer to decide wether the ball leaves the players foot properly or not taking into account the players skill level and the weather. Mathew Richardsons sprays it outabounds of the swhere you want him to be exactly. Make it a run with role, defensive or offensive role. Change who kicks it in. in there as either free kicks to be given away or tribunual cases.

10. Ball movement- It should always be taken into acount the pressure, distance the skill of the player when kicking, hand passing or doing anything to do with the ball really. Make it harder to kick goals and make the weather more of a force in the game. I almost hit goals every time from a standingide of his boot alot. it would be good to incorperate those kind of things..

11. Tactics- Tactics are very important and you should be able to get the players to tag, spare man back, bad mouth other players to put em off and argue with the ref lol. Positioning you men on the field in terms of playing front, left, behind ect... Like on a chess board put the players where you want them.

this is going to be way better than the other afl games. this what i was wanting in a afl game. If its any thing like NFL or NHL games it will be good. Dynasty mode will be awsome, if they make it like the NHL 2004 dynasty mode it is going to be great.

Go back a bit plz. Who exactly is making this game?

good 2 c that AFL tribunal with reports and suspensions & Player trading at end of season have been added but i was thinking is the tribunal going to consistant

while we're at it, i think we should add streakers, but you'll have to opt to turn them on, but you don't get a choice of whether they're male or female... it'll be random...

we'll also add a replay mode for the streakers, with pseudo-news reports with hundreds of different angles to allow the player to see a penis from every conceivable direction...

oh, and we should consider putting crowd interaction into the game, so you'll be able to write and record a chant that the game will multiply to have a crowd sing along...

and crowd boxing, so after the game, a crowd member from each side's fanbase gets into a barny and fully punches on... no special moves just bare-knuckle boxing...

and how about the drunken police dodge drive home?

what do you think of these ideas? should we include them?

I think it would be really cool and create a new aspect to the game we love if we were able to create players icon_cool.gif

i really wish that they would make it with a big trade week and salary cap of 6mil or woteva it is it would be awesome to be signing and trading players!
hello i think that afl2005 should have trade thing like NBA Live and that. that would be good. and bring the lends back in 2 the game 2.
im sooooo happy about there being trades. i think there should be drafts and a trade week with the 6mil. salary cap or whatever it is and there should be a tribunal and more frequent injuries coaches should be able to come and go depending on how well the team went that year and players should retire after a fews years if there old and there should be random players that come into the draft. ooh and mabe the vfl and stuff u should see who played well CANT WAIT FOR A GAME WITH THESE FEATURES

Heh, I'm playing AFL Live PE and I just saw that my team's leading goalkicker at the end of the season was Paul Medhurst with 114 goals. XD

I'm in the second season with Simmonds leading the goalkickers after 7 rounds with 42 goals. LOL

YES it is going to be on the pc I live in the united states and the ps2 and xbox games dont work on american consoles. so this is a game I will definatly get and be getting sent over here. it sounds great and will hopefully be better than the last games even though I have greatly enjoyed the afl series, trading is great it sounds more to be going along the lines of most other sport games like nba and madden where you trade and so on, so I hope it does. It just overall sounds like a huge improvement from the last ones.

can we lock these threads now?

i'm aware people like AFL (god only knows why) but since the publishers gone, whats the point of these threads?

Ok here is the first mini trailor of AFL LIVE 2005 here, i must say it's rather impresive...it just shows the new player models, stadium australia, new grass, new 3d crowd etc. and yes according to the trailor there will be the 'create a player' option icon_biggrin.gif
