AFL Live 2005 announced

Xbox News | Yet another AFL title due out next year for the PS2 and Xbox. First details inside.
IR Gurus has today announced the development of a new title in the AFL Live series, AFL Live 2005.

AFL Live 2005 is scheduled for release in April 2005 (yes that's ten months away) and will hopefully be one of the biggest updates to the AFL Live franchise yet. With the last two AFL Live games recieving 2.0 and 3.0 respectively on this site we are hoping that IR gurus make significant improvements to the title. Some of the details unveiled so far include:

  • All New Gaming AI
  • New Team and Individual Player tactics
  • "Rough Play" with realistic on-field play
  • Online multiplayer gaming with Xbox Live (about time)
  • Player fatigue
  • Refined player collisions
  • New ball physics
  • Updated high polygon/detailed player models
  • Individual player faces for key players
  • Heritage jumpers for all 16 teams
  • Real time lighting and shadows on players
  • Decals such as mud and bandages on players throughout the match
  • Expanded motion capture player animations
  • Updated 3D Graphics
  • 9 realistic football stadiums
  • MCG will be updated to reflect the current state
  • New weather effects such as improved rain
  • Improved animation blending
  • User controlled replay system
  • Cinematic in-game replays
  • Commentary by Dermott Brereton, Denis Commeti and Dipper
  • Expanded commentary and sideline comments
  • Multiple in-game and out-game production values
  • Multiple camera modes
  • National Anthem during finals games
  • Added cheats, video unlocks and modes
  • Dynasty mode - continuous season play up to 10 years
  • Full 2005 fixture and player list
  • AFL tribunal with reports and suspensions
  • Player trading at end of season
  • Individual user profiles
  • Match statistics.

We must admit that these additions all sound great but will be in vain if the gameplay does not improve. Considering AFL Live: Premiership Edition was released a mere two months ago we are surprised IR Gurus would announce a sequel so quickly.

AFL Live 2005 will be released on the PS2, Xbox and PC in April 2005. PALGN will have more news on it as it comes to hand.

oh hurray... icon_rolleyes.gif

actually i'm not surprised a sequel was announced so soon, it would hopefully draw attention away from the shoddy work on the last game...

and why would you want to sit through the anthem on a game, people don't like doing it in real life, why would they want to simulate that??

just a question about the previous titles (i've only played each for a total of about an hour) was the blood rule present? just with a rough play option, you'd think it'd be needed...

Hopefully this one wont be such a disaster like the pervious instalmnet for the series.

Sounds like some great features are been added as well, doesn't sound to bad so far.

I thought EA was bad with their yearly updates....

i think sports games really warrant yearly updates, provided the games are actually decent to play... simply because teams change...

i would love to be able to afford all the official WRC games, (even though the first was absolute ****) since i am quite into rallying, especially the WRC.

i do think that more bonus features are required though... like a previous years highlight package or something...

True, and while EA does non-stop yearly updates, they (i think) try to improve them. These AFL games just seem to get worse with every yearly(and I use that loosely) update.

icon_biggrin.gif well done i have wanted an afl game with trades and a dynasty mode and i will now be satisfied!
i hope it hurrys up the trading will be awesome and so will the rough play, you have to listen to the national anthem before the grand final but before the other finals would be annoying. i'm sick of pretending jade rawlings is trent croad, i just hope they dont mess it up again

i think the dynasty mode is boss and the collions should be more realistic like if they get bumped good they should break there shoulders and there faces should show it on da replay.the ball should bounce properly and the snaps should be improved. the tribunal is a great idea and adds more suspense. there should be a diffculty level really hard for me and other players to choose from because its too easy.

i can't begin to comprehend how hard it would be to implement realistic football bounce physics into a game... not in this generation anyway...

icon_smile.gif I just hope it isnt as hard as the last game (AFL Live 2004). It was just toooo easy! after a few games on hard you were able to belt teams by more than 90+ points in 5 minute quarters. i hope the suspensions are real and the gameplay advanced ie. Kick-along the ground like peter daicos, harder shot on goal, diving on the ball, better wet conditions play and harder to do cappas not just a cappa every second marking contest like the computer!!!!!!!!

can u make it come out sooner? trading the players at the end of the seasons sounds cool

sure, i'll just let my infinite number of monkeys in front of an infinite number of workstations know that the complete works of shakespear is no longer a priority...

hi! i can't wait for the dynasty mode because i love the idea of drafting and trading but i believe the game should have current TAC cup players to choose from even if you just give them random stats.
It would make the game way better if it had current Murray Bushranger players such as Brett Deledio, Shannon Emmett, Marcus Drum etc.

Sounds great but i would of loved to have the VFL in it as well

Nice, but the majority won't care - and AFL games just don't have the sales base to make it financially viable for inclusions like that. It's amazing we get AFL games at all.

I would want 2 knw if the grapghics is gonna be like the one in the introduction... the 3D one!!
