Fortunately for fans of the game, a sequel has been announced. Rocky Legends is to be developed by Venom Games, a company made up of a large number of ex-Rage employees, and to be published by Ubi Soft.
Appearing on the PS2 and Xbox this year, Rocky Legends will work in a similar fashion to the original game. Players will be able to train before a fight with one of 8 minigames, including new co-op minigames, and then participate in a fight whilst following various storylines. Rather than just focusing on Rocky this time, there will be story modes available for Apollo Creed, Ivan Drago and Clubber Lang.
Rocky Legends will feature an expanded roster, with at least twice as many boxers as the original game, as well as a host of new venues, bringing the total up to 20. Fans of the Xbox version of Rocky are set to be treated further by the developer, as the game will feature support for online play exclusively over Xbox Live.
"Ubisoft is extremely excited to be renewing our partnership with MGM for another round of Rocky success," said Tony Kee, vice president of marketing for Ubisoft. "With the huge success of the first Rocky videogame, I'm confident the Rocky Legends will be another winner for gamers who champion the legendary Rocky brand; especially with the unique aspect of being able to play-out the untold story of cinema's most famous boxing legends."
"The ongoing partnership and resulting Rocky Legends videogame with Ubisoft is the direct result of commercial and critical success from the first Rocky game," said Neil Haldar, Vice President, Production and Business Development, MGM Interactive. "The upcoming videogame will again showcase our diversified and successful approach in collaborating with strong partners for our videogame business."
Rocky Legends is set for release later this year. PALGN will keep you up to date with any developments, and provide a full, in-depth preview in the coming weeks.
