Mass Effect 2 confirmed?

360 News | New spin-off novel 'set between the first and second game'.
Following Electronic Arts' acquisition of BioWare Corp., the future of the Mass Effect franchise looked uncertain. EA's purchase of the Canadian-based developer entailed gaining ownership of the Mass Effect intellectual property rights. Although BioWare and Microsoft – publisher of the first Mass Effect title – reiterated their continuing support for the sci-fi RGP, the situation between them and EA still remains unclear.

However, according to TeamXbox, Del-Rey Books and author Drew Karpyshyn – lead writer of the first Mass Effect game – have announced a second Mass Effect book, titled Mass Effect: Ascension. The first novel, Revelation, was released some months before the first game and helped set the story behind the Mass Effect universe. The new novel is set to hit shelves in Summer 2008. The interesting part of the announcement though is that the second novel will be 'set between the first and second game'.

This news is the clearest sign yet that there will indeed be a sequel. Though there is no news yet as to whether EA or Microsoft will be publishing, fans can rest assured from the announcement that the Mass Effect series will be continuing on for some time yet.

nice stuff there i had no idea the game was actually based on a book cool. That would almost probably be a first for the industry here's hoping the 2nd Mass Effect is multi platform.

I dont think it is based on a book, just for a lot of big budget games that are heavily emphasis on story, novel's are actually made specifically for that game, it helps create the universe more and i imagine it would help a lot with knowing what information and back story to include in the game. I think halo also has a few full length novels out there, and im sure some of the other bioware ones would have them too.

Awesome. I can't wait.

I am generally against sequels, but Mass Effect was an experience that I would certainly love to relive many, many times over. I'll start my second playthrough soon, as a renegade (btw - is there any way to continue with the side quests etc after you've finished the game? I left a bit out in my rush to the end).

^^Unfortunatly not. You need to go back to your save game before you started the last planet.

Or you could start a new game with the same character.
