Top Spin 3 images released

360 News | New balls.
2K Sports has sent through the latest images of Top Spin 3, which is set for release early next year in Australia on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.

Top Spin started off as an Xbox exclusive game, before 2K acquired the franchise. The first game was then ported to the PlayStation 2 years later. Last year the sequel was released with moderate success. Details on Top Spin 3 haven't really been revealed but we expect the single player career mode will be overhauled and there will be more locations and characters in the game.

Hopefully they fix the gameplay in this one. The original Top Spin was and is awesome, but they somehow lost it on the sequel.

I disagree - the gameplay in the first Top Spin was ordinary. When you compare Top Spin to Virtua Tennis or Smash Court Tennis, it feels less like a Tennis game. The risk shot rendered the other buttons useless to a skilled player and there was a lack of rallies. The lob shot was useless as just about everything could be smashed if you stood at an equal distance from the net and baseline. Top Spin had good graphics though and the Create a player mode was really good as you could create your friends. However the gameplay in Smash Court and Virtua Tennis was far superior.

Smash Court was great because it was based on timing of hitting the ball rather than holding a button down. If you missed the timing you wouldn't hit it as hard and your opponent would be able to get a little of the advantage back that you had. It was basically an arm wrestle but not overdone like in Virtua Tennis where its hard to get back into the point unless someone makes a mistake. You can still try to pull off running shots in Smash Court, you can rally it, come to the net but have to be wary not to be caught out of position, its still not the ultimate tennis simulation, but its the best on the market. Its a shame the graphics are pretty bad compared to the other two games otherwise I think it would sell a lot more.

Those images are hard to decipher.

I see James Blake, the third frame is BER (Thomas Berdych v.s. Blake), but i cannot figure out the player(s) and their names in the first image (RIC and MAT). Any ideas.

Anyways i love tennis but after playing plenty on last gen consoles and Virtua Tennis 3 on the PS3 i could easily give this a miss.
