New Xbox Live content excludes Silver subscribers

360 News | Goldies get it all a week earlier.
Major Nelson has stated that since the big Dashboard update hit on Tuesday, Microsoft's plan to give Gold Xbox Live members extra benefits has been implemented, so that from now on, Gold subscribers will have access to demos and downloadable content a whole week before it becomes available to Silver members.

So, if you're only Silver, you'll get this lovely message:
"This item is currently for Xbox LIVE Gold members only. Silver members can check again in a few days or upgrade to an Xbox LIVE Gold Membership." This has already taken effect, with newly released BioShock content for example being available exclusively to Gold members at the moment.

"This is not done to annoy our Silver members-limited time exclusive access to content is just one of the many benefits of having a Gold Xbox Live account." Major Nelson adds. So, Silver members... are you annoyed?

Let's not forget Microsoft loses money on every Xbox 360 sold.

It's hard to say that we're been taken for a ride when you consider that fact.
It's a massive undertaking to implement a global unified network. I'm not sure how Sony is going to keep it free to be honest.
Sony will charge for a premium-level PSN within 12 months. Mark my words.
I suspect Home will come with some sort of premuium level option.

That's what they said 12 months ago and again about 3 years ago with PS2's online.

Like LeonJ said, expect any subscription based stuff to come from Home rather than PSN.

As for this Silver demo lock out thing, this practically means I won't need to keep my system hooked up to the network any more if this is how they are going to treat their customers. It was bad enough when it was the Crackdown demo but doing this across the board is just plain stupid especially considering that originally the only difference between Gold and Silver was the multiplayer.

Many people will say that I should just get a gold account but personally I don't want one because I don't game online much at all, it's not worth $80-$100 a year just to get demos and a few matches on Bomberman in.

Consider MS on my hate list again where I don't want it. icon_sad.gif
