Rockstar has officially confirmed via a press release what they revealed to PALGN in May, that the special edition of Grand Theft Auto IV will retail for $149.95 in Australia.

The special edition of Grand Theft Auto IV contains "the game, a metal lock box and key, the Grand Theft Auto IV artwork book, a Grand Theft Auto IV soundtrack CD and the limited edition black Rockstar duffle bag", according to Rockstar. Those who aren't interested in the special edition can pick up the standard edition, which will retail for $119.95.

Had it preordered for months now...

Hopefully we won't have to wait too much longer.

So do we have a date yet, or do they just continue to tease us?

Its been pushed back to anytime in 2008, it was slated for Q2 2008.

This will be the biggest release this gen, bar perhaps metal gear, so they have to get it perfect. I don't care if it's christmas 08, as long as it is as good as GTA 3 was for the PS2 back in the day. That sort of impact is what they need to strive for.

Do you mean sales wise? GTA has a chance, but MGS? lololololol. Won't even be in the top 10.

Back on topic, why are they still setting the RRP at $120? Who the hell is selling titles for 120 bucks in the first place?
Thats always been the RRP, but stores like JB always sell for around $80-$90.

And I do think that MGS4 will be a massive seller. It has much more mass appeal than the older titles with its "warzone" control system, and you have to remember, Metal Gear Solid 3 didnt sell well because it launched right next to Grand Theft Auto 3 icon_wink.gif

I just hope it won't have the bugs GTA III had or any. I had to complete the game more times then I remember due bugs.

You mean Metal Gear Solid 2 right? That was the same year (as GTA3) and it didn't sell overly well compared to GTA3 and MGS3 as far as I know sold even worse years later! That's not to say that MGS isn't amazing (cause.. hell yeah it is) but it doesn't have NEARLY the selling power that GTA does and I very much doubt it ever will. It's too 'hardcore' for most gamers regardless of it's god-like status with the media.

I agree, I don't understand why people are saying MGS will save the PS3. After the MGS2 debacle, I don't think the mainstream trusts Kojima anymore. MGS4 will still sell a boatload of copies for the starving PS3 fans, but are people going to buy a system for it? Probably not.

Too early to call...

Are you talking in terms of sales, or critical acclaim?

Playasia just keeps looking more and more attractive.

Why don't they just bring out a legendary edition for $2499.99?

What a joke.

I'm talking in terms of what i expect.

personally, i think the standard edition is the joke price.

granted, you mightn't be into collector's editions, but for what you get, $30 more is not a lot of money.

True that $30 isn't alot of money. But think again of what you get, and what other sepcial editions have offered for a mere $10.

Then add $30 on top of the already-pushing-it $120 price tag, and you end up with an equation that gives the answer: "market exploitation".

I have no doubt it will be a great game, maybe even worth the price to some, but I can't help but wonder at how they can keep raising prices regardless of the strength of the Aussie Dollar. I used to tolerate it, but my patience is wearing thin.

i'm thinking i may have mis-interpreted you post that i quoted, mainly regarding the "What a Joke" line. my point was that the standard edition is tremendously over-priced, even for a GTA game.
and in all honesty, i was expecting a $200 price-tag to the CE.

i guess it really depends on what you want from the set. if all you are after is an artbook, then i agree that a $30 premium is OTT, but for everything you do get, i can't really think of a many other CEs that compete with both price and contents - in others words: value.
looking at the $10 CEs i've got on my shelves, that's about all i think they're worth, whereas i think this is a bargain at $150.

i do certainly agree with the exchange-rate issue though, but i think that's another argument/discussion altogether.

It is and it isn't. Every time another game is released for $120, that sets a pricing standard, and as we now know, prices never fall back down again. So soon the normal game price will rise from $100 to $120, then who knows how high it might go...
