Assassin's Creed fastest-selling new IP since 2002 in UK

360 News | Ubisoft surely happy with the British reception.
GamesIndustry.biz is reporting that Assassin's Creed is the fastest selling new IP since 2002. This news comes after Assassin's Creed shot to the top of the UK charts this week.

The game is the second fastest selling new IP in the UK and the fastest selling new IP since The Getaway which was released in 2002. The Xbox 360 version of the game sold 67% of the sales, with the PlayStation 3 version taking the remaining 33%. The game is also the third fastest selling Xbox 360 game within a weekly sales period.

Assassin's Creed is set for release today in Australia, stay tuned to PALGN for our review shortly.

The Getaway?
really?

well, hopefully people are better satisfied with this new IP than they were with that one.

Seems odd with Blockbusters like Gears of War and Bioshock coming as new IPs in the last 12 months alone. Especially so given the mixed reviews AC has received.

This game has been advertised like an absolute mofo.

And it appears on two consoles.

QFT. And they both sold huge numbers too.

Oh well, congrats to Ubi Soft for doing something right. Will be picking up AC next week, most probably. Looking forward to the PALGN review.

Doesn't seem odd to me at all. It's always the mediocre overhyped stuff that always gets the best sales it seems bar a couple of exceptions.

And yes i'm buying it today. I wasn't looking foward to it at all upuntill a week or so ago but it looks good enough to muck around in for a bit. Atleast the graphics are nice.

Just imagine what would happen if they built up hype and advertised a good game for once :O

^ yEa Bioshock! That game should've sold through the roof, as with Mass Effect (both have been advertised quite heavily)! I honestly don't understand how the market works cuz it's always the games/companies that I really despise that always get the best sales (again bar a couple fo exceptions).

I hope Mario Galaxy eats everyone alive!!

Picked up both Assassins Creed and Mass Effect here in Perth yesterday. Assassins Creed is fantastic, lost 6 hours to it, didn't get a chance to check out Mass Effect until 1am which also demanded a couple of hours be thrown at it... was hard to drag myself into the office this morning

Assasins creed seems to be on mobiles too.Dunno if it's a cheap knock off or the real deal, but if it's legit it would boost the sell through numbers even more so.

I hate it when they do that. It's really not the same game at all, so to count it towards overall sales is incredibly misleading.

Got it today from EBgames in perth CBD, got the jb catalogue and made them match the 3-games trade in deal.

Unfortunately the cheapest games they had were $35 each, so it cost $70 (buy 2 get 1 free).

In retrospect, I could have tried Gametraders for the games as EB said there were no exclusions, any 360 games would do.

The deal also applies to mass effect ($79 at JB) and COD4 ($89), so save some money and get their catalogue, then hit EB with a vengance icon_wink.gif

Assassins Creed... that's that game about interviewing Jade Raymond, right?

The Getaway was a great game but the fastest selling new IP since 2002!? thats pretty bananas.

I don't think Assassin's Creed was over hyped, for the stage demos and previews it sounded like it actually deserved the hype surrounding it but it simply under delivered and is a big disappointment, good game don't get me wrong but not as good as i expected.

I'm looking forward to seeing the free running elements implemented on the DS.

I'm imagining they will have to greatly simplify the world geometry. Then I think it could control a bit like Zelda but with a camera rotating and following the player through the world.

Assassins is one of my most adored games I have ever played icon_smile.gif

Striking guards simultaneously while having 3 of them around you, so awesome!

Hopefully AC sells well in Aus to it should really its a alright to great game in my opinion.

Why not just say 'game' instead of 'IP'? Could someone explain?
Because, for example, Mario Galaxy would be a new game, but not a new IP, as Mario has been around for 20+ years.

If it makes it easier, perhaps replace 'IP' with 'series' or something?

Did you read the wiki link?

Basically, there have been new games selling more than this (Halo 3 for example), but not completely new IP's selling more.

This series deserves to be a massive hit franchise for Ubisoft.

I'm extremely happy with it, and cannot wait to see a sequel with greatly-expanded mission variety.

It could be the start of something AMAZING.

A few hours in, and I love this game.

I will do every single side quest just to draw the fun out icon_smile.gif

Free running is just so great. The only downside is the guards pick you up for even just running, but the upside of that is that then you get to kill them icon_smile.gif Combat is pretty easy, if you're careful you can take out tons of guards - but the killing is so well choreographed that you forget how unfair it is, and just revel in the gore icon_biggrin.gif icon_razz.gif
