Halo 3 map pack coming soon

360 News | Three new maps due on December 11
Microsoft has sent through word this morning that the first map pack for its blockbuster title Halo 3 will be available through the Xbox Live Marketplace on December 11. The map pack is called the 'Heroic' map pack, and will cost players 800 points - that is, until the maps are released for free in autumn next year.

The press release states that each map will provide a totally different play style. 'Standoff' is more focused towards slayer and objective matches, with a large valley and several entrenched bases. 'Rat's Nest' is rather unique in that it focuses on indoor vehicle combat in labyrinth-like passages. 'Foundry' is referred to as the "ultimate Forge map" as players can edit everything in the environment - not unlike the warehouse in the recently released Tony Hawk's Proving Ground. All three maps will have the ability to be manipulated through Forge.

So, a nice little Christmas present for Halo fans. We'll have more news on the Halo 3 map pack as it happens.

3 new maps isn't going to make the game any better. It's just different scenery for a few days. Then you get used to them and it's the same bland game.

Cod4 has awesome maps. I can't think of any I don't like on it. Whereas i hate most of the Halo 3 maps.

These maps will be a blast.
It's great to see that Bungie has worked the matchmaking system to pair the people with the maps in a normal playlist.
This will be a lot better then the old ways of playing the maps in Halo 2 (custom games and "special" playlist's.)

Pics of the maps in case anyone is interested:

The Bungie update has some information on the Maps as well.

free in Autumn next year. Until then, 800 points.

exactly.

my post was more implicating the fact that i see no reason to buy sh*t at all from Marketplace, so i'll wait until it's free.

Nice cover up, but I still think you didn't read the full article. icon_razz.gif

whilst i have no way of proving it*, i did actually read it right the first time.

i guess the intended subtly of my initial comment was subtle to the point of non-existence.

Kool-aid or Krispy Kreme doughnuts are the only forms of evidence I'll accept.

Why the negativity?

New maps = new terrain = new tactics = more fun.

Thanks Bungie!

Not really. Standoff looks like the only interesting map. Which looks like abig team battle map. Which I don't like playing because then it's just running in and blasting away. I like to play smaller games with 8-12 people, because then you do actually use tactics.

So will this be like Halo 2 where you couldn't play matchmaking unless you had the map pack? icon_sad.gif

How can you say that? You've seen one picture of the map. The little tactics that you get from playing a game on a map is when things get interesting.

I'll wait till the maps are free to download.
