The new website was launched in the UK but has now been launched in both New Zealand and Australia. Players will need to register and then enter their results after each match they play. The competition is open for the duration of the soccer season, and PES Rankings also allows members to create and manage their own leagues and teams and host their own PES tournaments. The new website uses the ELO points system, which is similar to the way points are allocated in tennis competitions. Points are given for wins and draws, with the number awarded dependent on the number of players competing and if a lower rated player beats a top drawer competitor etc..
Atari will also be hosting a series of offline competitions wherein ardent players will be invited to take on their peers face-to-face, with larger amounts of points to be gained via attending and winning such events.
"We are very excited to introduce PES Rankings to Australia and New Zealand and build the brand awareness of the Pro Evolution Soccer franchise. The game already has a strong and healthy fan base and the PES Rankings website will provide a medium for gamers to interact with each other online to develop a strong community of PES gamers across Australia," stated Mark Gilbert, Marketing Director of Atari Australia.
"We are delighted to welcome Australia and New Zealand to PES Rankings. It has been running successfully in Europe since 2005. PES has become a permanent fixture in the charts all year round, and we can attribute much of this to the way we work with our committed fan base. We hope we see the same success replicated in Australia," commented Jon Murphy, Pro Evolution Soccer Team Leader for Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH.
