No Mass Effect Collectors Edition for Australia

360 News | Save some money this Christmas.
BioWare Community Coordinator Chris Priestly, who recently featured in a two-part interview with PALGN about the Canadian-based developer's upcoming action-RPG Mass Effect, has revealed on the official forums that the Limited Collectors Edition of the game will not be retailing in Australia.

The "LCE [is] not available though online retailers [or] in stores [in Australia]," Priestly stated. Only shoppers in the USA and Europe will be lucky enough to score a copy of the LCE, which promises a heap of extra content, including art books, developer videos and commentaries, themes and soundtrack music. Strangely, even Canadians are missing out on the LCE.

"BioWare is still seeing if there is anything that can be done with this situation," Priestly said, though acknowledging his limited influence in a later post. "We make and create the game. We do not control the shipping or distribution of the game."

Australian fans looking forward to getting their hands on the Mass Effect Limited Collectors Edition need not despair completely, as they can still get a copy of the complimentary bonus disc when they preorder the game at participating retailers. Click here for all the info.

"BioWare have just explained what's going on with the Mass Effect Collectors Edition. As in, which regions are getting it, and how they can get hold of it. As largely confirmed by EB Games' notices, in the US, you can get the CE only from "select online retailers". The game's bonus disc, though, will be available both online and in stores. In Europe, you can get the CE from stores, but the bonus disc isn't being made available. As for Canada and Australia, well, you get ****, and will be getting neither. Sorry."

That pretty much sums it up in my feelings for us Australians and Canadians.

hangon, so we definitely get the bonus disk?

the quote Leon posted makes it seem like we get shafted there too.

Bioware reject Canada?

Couldn't we just get the Collectors edition from eBay or something since games are not region coded?

Varies with the 360 game (and really depending on the publisher I think..)

I *think* our preorder disc is the same as the one in the LCE, but we miss all the other cool stuff. I dont care about gamerpics or behind the scenes video. I can get them anyway. I want the codex and what not so I can lie down leisurely and read it or open it during gameplay.

Its a real mix up thats for sure, and I bet you BioWare are fighting as hard as they can for it in Canada. Since theyre Canadian and all. Many of the people who are making the game will miss out! Laughable

I was asking at Game and JB on the weekend, was holding out hope that maybe EB might be getting it, guess not. So what's the word on the region coding on this one. Was already annoyed Oz wasn't getting the collectors ed of Assassin's Creed now this too. Even my 360 has gone on strike in protest and is currently in for service icon_sad.gif

Is it really that big of a deal? Sure it sucks we miss out, and it's nice to have bonus features, but it seems virtually every big game over the last year or two has had some sort of collector's or special edition to go with it. It's just devalued the concept entirely for me.

^ yeah I agree. Whenever I see 'Collector's Edition' now all I think is 'Different Edition'.

More often than not I prefer the minimalist design of the standard.

I completely agree with Brendan over the Collector's Editions just being a dime a dozen but it's the principal of this whole situation that gets my goat! Why do Australians keep getting shafted? I'm positive that aside from America, Canada and the U.K we have the best sales figures when it comes to western releases, so why dog it?

I'm not even interested in this game (I don't doubt it's greatness it's just not my thing) but this announcement really pisses me off.

if the "Pre-order" disc we get is the same as the bonus disc that the CE gets, then no, it's not a big deal since that side of things is not something i'm interested in, but i'm pretty annoyed that we don't get the additional book here.

i suppose it really depends on the quality of the book. if it's another Manual-sized insert (like the SE Gran Turismo 3 book) then i'm not too fussed, but if it's a proper bound book, like the SE Warhammer: Mark of Chaos book, then i'm pretty annoyed.
