Bionic Commando 'remake' announced

360 News | Armed and dangerous.
There seemed to be some negative repercussions when Capcom announced last week that Monster Hunter 3 would be heading to the Wii, as opposed to the PlayStation 3. After all, Monster Hunter is quite a popular franchise, especially in Japan. However, it seems that there could have been some substance in the seemingly cryptic message that followed.

While there still may be announcement to follow (it is only Tuesday after all), Gamespot seem to have unveiled what the announcement was meant to be. After a very long hiatus of nearly twenty years, it seems that Bionic Commando is about to make a comeback on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The game indeed will look to make use of the game's original distinguishing feature, the abilities held by the protagonist's bionic grappling arm.

Taking on the roll of Nathan Spencer, a bionically enhanced soldier who has been framed for crimes that were committed by his superiors. However, when an experimental terrorist weapon levels a city, Spencer is 'saved' from death row and sent into the newly formed battle ground. As you'd expect, players will be able to use the bionic grappling arm to get through the treacherous landscape, as well as fight enemies, rappel down inclines and toss heavy objects.

There is no specified (re)release for Bionic Commando so far. We'll bring you more, as it becomes available to us.

Bionic Commando remake?! FINALLY!

Although I'm less than enthused about the reworked theme of the game... disgraced (set-up) soldier saved by the bell and reinstated to fight terrorists... woah, edgy! I'd rather be fighting through an army none-too-subtly based on Nazis while searching for the missing Super Joe, thanks.

Eh, so long as the gameplay is good I suppose.

OMG! Pleasure overload!

So long as they create some really interesting mechanics involving the bionic arm and not just throw a couple of grapple points throughout levels, I'm sold.

Hrmm... the initial pictures that are up on the website don't do much to dispel my doubts about this. The character design for Nathan is horribly generic, and the ridiculously over-sized 'bionic' arm just makes me think that this could go the way of 'Bomberman: Act Zero' icon_dead.gif

The design of Nathan seems very "Prey-esque" to me. I'll reserve judgement for now, so long as the gameplay is decent and they really try something unique and new, I'm on it.

This line from the article doesn't make sense icon_lol.gif

I had much <3 for Bionic Commando back on the NES, so will definately pick this up on launch. Hopefully they include the original NES version as an unlockable.

Oh! Excitement++

Mike Patton is set to voice the lead role in Bionic Commando!

*jig*

Edit: I always kind of entertained the idea that Lost Planet may hay started as a tech demo for a possible Bionic Commando remake, with the grapple move instead of a jump... I wonder if I wasn't altogether off the mark there?

Edit the 2nd: A teaser trailer is up!! Hearing that melody from the original made me grin like an idiot icon_biggrin.gif

I just saw the trailer.

WOW is an understatement. This game is already looking amazing. Capcom sure do know how to make an entrance...

And that trailer needs to be in HD.
