Assassin's Creed having development issues

360 News | 360 DVD not big enough; PS3 memory causing problems.
In an interview with Pro-G, the game's creative director, Patrice Desilets, talked about the current challenges with fitting the hotly anticipated game Assassin's Creed onto an Xbox 360 DVD disc, compared to the Blu-ray version of the game which fits just fine.

On the other side of the tracks, he said that the team is having some bigger issues with the PlayStation 3 because of specific memory problems on the console.

"Both have their own challenges. Right now we have a big challenge on the 360 to make it fit on a DVD, to put five languages, to put all the data on eight gigs. On the Blu-ray side we're really good, but then the memory is quite different. How we handle memory is really different between the two machines and we're struggling right now on the PS3." says Desilets.

"We have people who are really dedicated and we're having help from Microsoft on one side and Sony on the other side to have the same quality on both systems. It really depends on the week basically as to who's best."

All issues should be sorted out in time for the game's release in November, when you can decide for yourself which version of the game is better. If you're into that sort of thing.

LeonJ, it actually always was a multiplatform title, the game was actually given a small presence at a Microsoft event before being announced at the Sony conference as a PS3 exclusive and Ubisoft was forced to deny that the game was even at the Microsoft event icon_wink.gif

Gee, why don't they make two versions of the game? You know, alter the game for the different consoles like every other game developer does.
They probably are, but you still need the common ground, 360 sucks balls for streaming free roaming games as someone else mentioned because you can't have multiple discs in such cases. I'm surprised that they are having memory issues, I know we've had a few at work but the GPU can access the main memory fairly quickly and since it's the graphics memory that's likely to be running out there shouldn't be to big an issue... but if they somehow managed to need more main memory than video memory... I don't even want to think about such a horrible thing.

It makes me wonder why they crammed everything else into these little boxes but leave out the one thing that would fit inside no problem, RAM.
Why don't these machines have like 2 gig of ram in them?

"We've installed a mack truck engine into the next gen machines but given them all a 1 litre petrol tank"

yeah gee thanks

Totaly agree chimp. For the money we pay, is it so much to ask? Plus how much would it improve a game's potential?

This is truely the curse of multiplatform development. I wish this was a PS3 exclusive (because that's where it seems to have started development). I have a feeling that it will be buggy and have framerate issues.

Still, it's on my must buy list ATM.
This is truly the curse of the console!

Wouldn't have problems if it were a PC only game!

Regardless, it's having problems on both systems.

The irony is that these issues have nothing to do with the PC platform (RAM is scalable on PC and the game will just get installed anyway, so multiple discs aren't an issue) and yet apparently it's coming out later on this than the consoles. Me no understand.

Oh, and if this thing struggles with DVD's, how freaking big is the install going to be on my PC?
I've always wondered that. Everyone is going 'oh look, 360 is screwed, no Blu-Ray', but PC games are fine. Of course I might be wrong, Assassin's Creed might have spilled out onto a second disc, which would suck.
Yeah but PC games are compressed onto a DVD but then uncompressed onto your harddrive when you install them. You dont have that luxury on a console. And a good thing too, I dont want to have to start installing and uninstalling games on my consoles icon_smile.gif I have my PC for that.

For some reason im not hyped about this game at all. Im sure ill end up getting it though.
