Codemasters comments on Colin McRae's death

360 News | "He will never be forgotten".
Codemasters has officially posted a statement honouring Colin McRae, who tragically died on Saturday in a helicopter accident. Codemasters is the publisher of the Colin McRae titles, with the most recent Colin McRae title coming out in June.

The full statement from the company can be found below. Our thoughts here at PALGN are with the McRae family.

“Everyone at Codemasters, especially those who worked directly with Colin McRae, is deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic events of this weekend.

The loss of Colin McRae is deeply distressing. That it involved his son and another so young makes it even more tragic. Our thoughts are with his family and those closest to him and we share in their pain.

For over ten years, Colin was part of the Codemasters family and it was a privilege to have a man recognised as a true legend on the team. He always took a keen interest in the game experience, wanting to make sure it was without equal in its portrayal of the sport.

His contribution was inspirational and brought his technical expertise and passion for rally driving to each and every McRae game. Through the popularity of those games, he brought a whole new audience to the sport itself.

Codemasters’ relationship with Colin began through Jim, David and Richard Darling and their condolences, along with ours, are passed to Colin’s family. We are heavy of heart at his passing but we are also brimming with pride at knowing him and to have played a small role in his life.

He will never be forgotten by all at Codemasters.”

"He will never be forgotton" ...through our continuing franchise?

Sounds like a top guy, loved by many through their personal and professional relationships. Ashes to ashes.

Still can't believe his dead, another legend dead, just like Peter Brock and Richard Burns.

I hope his family all the best!

The last couple of years have been very unkind to rally drivers.

Who is that?
he was a british Rally Driver, who won the WRC a few years back.

he was driving back from a vehicle testing with Markko Martin (an Estonian driver, who was his teammate at the time) when he passed out at the wheel. both survived, albeit shaken.

he was diagnosed with brain tumours which eventually claimed his life in 2005.

Markko Martin was also involved in a massive off during the Rally of Great Britain, in which his co-driver Michael Park was kill instantly. Martin effectively retired from the sport as a result. Park's death was the first fatality in the WRC for over a decade.

and then there was Possum Bourne.
he was in an accident in the 1993 Rally Australia that killed his co-driver Roger Freeth - Bourne didn't retire but instead decided to honour Freeth's memory with the "ROJ" numberplate that was always on his car.
in 2003, Bourne was involved in a head on collision during an event recce (when the go out at 30kmph and write the notes for the event) and died from head injuries.
