Halo 3 Australian edition leaked

360 News | And sold on eBay.
There is little doubt that Halo 3 will be one of the biggest games of 2007. With the game set for release in just a few short weeks, the rabidly impatient among us can't wait any longer for September 25 to roll around. Unfortunately, an enterprising seller on eBay has made the wait all the more painful by placing, and subsequently selling two leaked Australian copies of the game on eBay for the somewhat paltry sum of AU $149.00.

IGN spoke to Microsoft Australia about the leak and asked whether the company will be tracking the culprits down - to which they responded with an unsurprising "no comment". IGN also queried Microsoft on whether they would ban the Xbox Live account of a user playing Halo 3 before the launch date, to which yet another revelatory "no comment" was given.

It's still unclear how the copies of the games were leaked in the first place, but if anything is certain, there's going to be a lot of PAL Halo fans kicking themselves for not window shopping on eBay more often.

Considering the ridiculous ban handed out to the guys who managed to transfer the Halo 3 beta across Live, I can only imagine that anyone caught with Halo 3 in their account before the 25th will be hunted down and executed...

This will probably be up on the internet in a matter of days then...if it isn't already.

$149 is a great price for getting it 2 weeks early, perhaps no one would've thought to look.

And Microsoft can't really ban the people who bought it, it's a legit auction and the seller is in the wrong here.

Knowingly buying stolen goods is also illegal.
The next few weeks is going to be interesting with all the Halo Hype, nevermind the fact I couldn't give a **** about this game.

I like how the photos have been taken in a pub.

well, a smart person would make a new, offline account for the duration, so even if he does get found out, it's an account solely for playing Halo 3 offline that gets banned.

i mean, it's not as if there's anyone else to go online with at the moment, is there?

No, but I can imagine the temptation of letting all your online 'buddies' see that you're playing Halo 3 might be a bit much for some people to bare icon_wink.gif

This is just like Halo 2 were the french verison was around the place before the release date.

A lot of sites used this review code to get theirs up early.

Yikes, this is HUGE!! How does this fool end up with 2 copies anyways? Someone's dad or something is gonna cop it hard! No one in their right mind (or atleast no-one who wanted to keep their jobs) would pull a stunt like this.

I honestly don't think punishing the buyers of it is justified. It was a valid sale on ebay and the games aren't stolen, they're being sold a little prematurely, but they're not stolen! Good on whoever bought them and is probably enjoying it as we speak.

Honestly if I had seen that listing I would've snapped it up quick smart despite already having bought the Legendary edition. Seriously getting Halo 3 like a full 2 weeks or so before any one else is epic in itself.

haha the seller is in Sydney, so most likely he actually works for MS in distribution or something. Will be interesting if they found out how he got it and 1 or more people get fired for theft.

I wonder what Microsoft are going to do? I can't believe they sold them for a measly 150 bux. Surely he would have sold it for more? Well I guess I am a little pissed by this because it means there are going to be spoilers all over the internets by the end of the week.

I assume it was a buy it now auction, so hopefully the people who bought this got it simply to play, and the people who would have gone to rip and leak all over the torrent sites didn't get it in time. I also thought it was funny how they has been taken in a pub, such a typical Australian.

EDIT: It seems that PALGN are the first to post this news, as after a quick google search, all I found was old news and a link to this article, Nice job Luke!

Well he lists that he has 2 unopen copies of Halo 3, however he has one open displaying its contents. This leads me to believe that he has 3 copies and is keeping one

He is very dumb indeed. If he manged to nick a copy, he should keep his mouth shut and enjoy the game - with his 360 disconnected from the net.

^ personally, i think the only dumb thing so far has been that he didn't create a new eBay profile to sell them through. the buyer seems to have made a new profile.

or, that he has 2 copies, and is keeping one.

i couldn't find evidence of a second listing on eBay, so either it's been removed, or he's only selling one.

^ But if it was a buy it now, couldn't he have advertised 2 in the quantity? I would have done that rather than list two seperate auctions.

ah, that's true.

i'm not exactly experienced with this new-fangled eBay shenanigans. icon_wink.gif

Well, MS is clearly not 100% certain they can nab him, or they wouldn't have "no comment"ed.

But he's definitely in danger.

Does anyone know if the sale was legit? Not just some presale empty boxes and a fake DVD?

Well the game ending is on the net already and Master Chief has shown his face in the game. Spoiler alert pic's in link.

I think we'll have to wait for the obligatory "GRATE EBAYER AAAAAAAAA+++++++++ WILL DEAL WITH AGAIN" feedback comment from the buyer for the scoop on that one.

It's legit or at least MS would likely be sure it is legit or they'd be quick to stamp this as a fake.
