Streets of Rage 2 pops up on the XBLA

360 News | Surprised?
While we all knew that Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (what a mouthful) was released yesterday on the Xbox Live Arcade, we didn't know that there was going to be a surprise release along side it.

The 1993 beat 'em up Streets of Rage 2, sequel to the Sega classic, has been unexpectedly added to the XBLA and is available for 400 MS points ($AU6). Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is available for 800 MS points ($AU12). Streets of Rage 2 was also released on Nintendo's Virtual Console earlier this year, and it received a "Maybe" rating in our Virtual Console round-up.

In Streets of Rage 2, players take the role of two punks who are out to rescue their friend who has been kidnapped by an evil syndicate that was 'defeated' in the previous title. The XBLA version contains the full single player campaign, Live and local multiplayer and a high definition makeover.

Not at all! Surprise would be a game I actually wanted. Not that there is anything wrong with Streets of Rage 2 (best. side scrolling. beat-em-up. ever) but not only do I have the original cartridge on Megadrive, but it's also available for download on the Wii shop and i'm sure I saw it in a compilation or something more recently (I could be wrong though). I really only want Streets of Rage 3 (shouldnt've sold my original cart).

Sweet only 400 points too. What a boon. Extra features and cheaper too. VC titles are a rip off compared to their Live Arcade versions.

This is, without a doubt, some of the best news to come out of the industry this year!... Okay, I’ll calm down now. Anyway, I’ll definitely be grabbing this.

And yes, please, bring on number 3!

Side note – for those of you as crazy as I am about the series, check out the project some dedicated fans have going...

Man I love this game, great release for only the 400 points. I've been craving another game like this since Golden Axe got released. These classic beat em ups are so worth it! Oh and I downloaded that remake you pointed out Bloody Tears, that shiz is awesome.
