LGC 07: Borderlands on Xbox 360 to require HDD

360 News | Core owners won't be able to play the title.
Gearbox president Randy Pitchford confirmed to 1UP at the Leipzig Games Convention that Borderlands, which was only announced a few days ago, will require a hard-drive to work.

According to Pitchford, because of the way the game generates everything from weapons to armor the title has different requirements from your typical first person shooter. "If it weren't for where the 360 and the PS3 have gone, with big hard drives, and lots of memory, and powerful processors, there's no way you can conceive of this as a console game," Pitchford said.

1Up asked Pitchford about whether Microsoft are likely to be concerned about the fact the game requires a hard drive. Pitchford stated, "I don't know if [Microsoft is] gonna complain about that, and I don't want to be in the middle of a controversy there, but you need space."

Ha! Didn't MS only recently clarify their position on HDD requirements for games, stating that only MMOs would be allowed to require a HDD? Here's hoping that they back down and that Borderlands sets a precedent for more games to do the same.

Those two screenshots make me think of Fallout colliding with GTA... and that is something I do a jig for.

If you buy a much cheaper model you should expect to be limtited somehow.

This is good news for me being a HDD owner, means they wont limit games so much.

MS should drop the price of the HDD so those with a core system can afford it a bit easier.

Yes hopefully this sets a precedent, I think only like 2% of the market have Core's and they're limiting our games!

Pretty stupid really, if you a 'casual' gamer and want a core 360, you'd have to buy a memory card anyway. Which has more complexity to a HDD anyway.

M$ should just say all games from now can use the HDD.

Yes a precedent would be nice.

While I don't pretend to understand the logistics and business implications of such an action, perhaps Microsoft could offer a discount on hard drives for those who can produce proof of purchase on a Core console...
