Downloading now. I'm a bit like Jim Dash on this game at the moment I think. It looks really awesome but I'm still not 100% convinced by it. Hopefully this demo will make me more hyped about it

Excellent, Ive been skeptical about the gameplay of this and despite my desire to get it on PC this should at least put to rest (or highlight) my fears on that side of things.

[Insert generic rant about PC being better for FPS games than console]

It'll be interesting to see if it holds up to system shock 2.

Ive been sceptical. I think it looks boring to be honest. Seems to be a very slow paced shooter. But then again I don't play very many shooters.

But definitely downloading this to try for myself.

Anyone else running out of hard drive space? I like to keep all my demos!

Preordered my copy already. PC version though. It would be cool if you could remotely activate your downloads from the Xbox 360 site.

I'm over my cap so I wont be able to download it but thats probably a good thing. Ive already put a deposit down for the whole thing and I don't want to spoil the feeling of unexpectedness when I put the DVD in the drive icon_razz.gif Great news to hear it came out so fast though!

I read on Kotaku its coming sometime later this month.. doesn't make it any better though..

I'll probably have a 360 before the demo comes out on PC anyway. What did I buy this new rig for dammit?

Oooh this is really tempting ... but I don't want to ruin it! Especially if the game isn't that long.

I'll have to wait 'til this weekend when I can be bothered to use my offpeak downloads.

I'm the same, the vid I saw just didn't seem all that good to me.

That said I can't wait to get home tomorrow to try it out.

Well, having slowly and thoroughly played through the demo, I can say it is the most atmospheric game I have ever played. Probably one of the scariest and at the same time cool titles at that, way up there with RE4.

The level of detail in the environment is brilliant, with many inventory type items around the place. Chocolate bars to restore health, various alcohol that does the same but takes away your "magic" levels and a very open gameplay mechanic.

The demo does progress linearly, with only one major path through it, however it is up to the player to decide just how they wish to go about it. At one point I heard a couple yelling to each other through a locked door, they were below the level I was on, so I jumped onto a chair and over a rail to land behind the man, before giving him a nice whack on the head before he could see me. His wife was a little angrier when she saw me however.

You really feel somewhat helpless in the environment, as every move you make seems to result in something unfortunate occurring. And the tragedy behind the world of Rapture is terribly confronting. As for the gameplay itself, you are able to either use conventional weaponry or biological modifications to your assistance.

The weapons in the demo are a revolver, a tommy gun and the trusty old monkey wrench, with the ability to shoot fire or electricity with your left hand, combinations are also possible, for example setting an enemy on fire and watching them jump into water to put the flames out, then electrifying the water and its inhabitants.

I will give a heads up that the game can be quite stressful, in that you find yourself attacked from multiple angles by fast moving enemies and you have limited ammo, so make sure you plan ahead in your tactics!

Really enjoyed what I saw, and definately recommend it. I'm glad I'm going with the PC version, as I feel that I will need the extra precision of a mouse when under attack, in saying this, the 360 still controls great, and it will be enjoyable on both platforms.

I remember my first impressions of Bioshock was of how imtimidating it looks...

And boy was I right. Definately the most immersive game (demo) I have ever played, makes you crap your pants every time you enter a room. I found myself getting pretty hammered, and found the electricity plasmoid but not the fire one?

The video at the end was a great insight to what can be done, but I think I'm gonna pass. Yeah - Bioshock has actually intimidated me out of a purchase.

Sad to hear it's scared you too much Jim Dash.. icon_sad.gif

Awesome impressions Alex, now then where's my PC demo icon_sad.gif

Jim, for the Fire plasmid check the Ladies toilets next to the men's ones where you find the hole in the cubicle.

I'm really hyped for this game, and pleased to see it living up to expectations, if you're after a typical first person shooter, you've come to the wrong title, as Bioshock is anything but. I think that was one of the more confronting elements of the game, its not like most of what you are used to seeing in a game.

As a weapons modeller I really enjoy seeing customisation , and the ability to choose ammo types and add-ons on the weapons makes it that little bit sweeter for me. Though I didn't find a shotgun in the demo, I did acquire a slug from one of the inhabitants.

Too scary? Really? Personally I didn't find the demo scary whatsoever. Not because I'm above such things but just because it didn't even seem like it was trying to hard. It's dark and some of the stuff is "creepy" in design yes but.. it's the 1950s with bright colors everywhere.

As for gameplay: I never realized until just now how much of a shooter this was. I always had the impression that it was a lot about moving around and 'adventuring' almost but it's quite a straight shooter when you get down to it. LOTS of enemies who take a lot of hits and little ammo too. It also moves MUCH faster than I would have expected as far as controls and character/enemy movement. It's NOT slow at all - not the fastest game ever but faster than things like Prey or GOW even.

Overall I'm pretty pumped however I'm expecting there is a lot more too it than what I've played because it doesn't seem all that 'different' at all. Well, not once you get passed the graphics and atmosphere which at the end of the day is just a coating to the gameplay.

Oh I do have ONE gripe about the graphics - very PC shooter like animations: that is stiff and bad! They're just so lacking compared to something like Gears or War that it's somewhat at odds which how amazing the rest of the game looks.

DL'ed....

Wow.

Pretty much what I expected - the best graphics I've ever seen (water effects are above what I expected, though I didn't in all fairness expect that much), awesome gameplay mechanics, engaging storyline...

...and so scary I will definitely pass icon_razz.gif

Sure, I'm a wussy. But I'd go as far as simply donating money to Irrational for just making such a high quality product. Other notes: controls felt very smooth and natural, physics was great, graphics deserves another 4 or 5 mentions (just blew me away, better than anything I have on PC or 360, except maybe Oblivion). It's gold, and deserves the awards it will surely win.

Awesomeness.

I started downloading this yesterday and it sped upto 40% in about 20 minutes and every percent from there on took absolutely ages....like 1% per hour.....so I left it overnight and just went to bed. Man heaps of people must've been downloading it.

I'm not expecting the demo to sell this product to me....that happened about 2 E3's ago when IGN first saw the game and wrote about it on their website (no lie...I was as interested in the game from a couple of paragraphs as I am now) but I am sooooo hanging to explore Rapture that I had to download it. There are still another 10 days to go before the full game comes out and quite honestly I won't be able to hold out.

I checked this morning and it was downloaded....might try it out tonight.

Can anyone tell me how long the demo actually goes for? And I heard it starts at the begining of the game, is this correct?
