Halo 3 preorders pass one million

360 News | A good start.
Microsoft has announced that preorders in North America alone for Halo 3 have exceeded the one million mark. The demand for the legendary edition of the game is expected to be sold out by the time the game launches on September the 25th.

"What we've experienced is nothing short of phenomenal," said Bob McKenzie, senior vice president of merchandising at GameStop Corp. "Halo 3 has eclipsed many previous records and will prove to be one of the must-have items of 2007."

"The excitement for Halo 3 is incredible," said Jill Hamburger, vice president of movies and games at Best Buy. "From our preorders online and the buzz we're hearing in our stores, we know this release is going to be one of the biggest entertainment events of the year. We're thrilled to be able to bring it to our customers."

It's clear Microsoft are going all out when it comes to Halo promotion. In America alone they've teamed up with 7-11, Pontiac and Burger King.

Great, now I'm hungry. This entire article is just a ploy to get us purchasing more 'burgers, isn't it? Confess! icon_razz.gif

Is there any way to get the pre-order figures for Australia? I'd be interested to see how well it's doing down here without the massive advertising campaigns.

Halo 2 got to two million if I remember correctly, I'd be expecting even more pre-orders as it gets closer to release.

Screw pre-ordering it. I'll just go buy it when I'm ready. Obviously the majority here are going to midnight launches?

^ I did for Halo 2, but I'll probably just wait til this becomes cheaper towards the end of the year for the summer break. My anticipation for this is considerably lower than Halo 2, and pales in comparison to Mass Effect and GTA4.

Hell yes.

Then a few cartons of beer and a night or two of Halo 3.

Yeah no need to pre-order massive titles such as this. JB will have it for $79 and have truckloads of copies.

Yea I had to pre-order the legendary edition from GameWizards online so that will be getting delivered. I think Zarnoss is going to the midnight launch at Dick Smith Macquarie Centre (if there is one) so I might go to that and just wait for my copy in the mail.

Man Microsoft/Bungie better deliver on the single player experience this time.

i thought it was 1.5M preorders, but 2.4M sold on launch day. this is worldwide though, so i'd assume that 1M in North America alone would point to exceeding this.

i also seem to remember GTA:SA releasing statements about being highest preordered and most sold in 24 hours too - but maybe it was the highest PS2 Game, not console game.

and WoW: Burning Crusade exceeded both, with 2.3M preorders and 2.7M sold in 24 hours - but it might not count on the list since:
a) it's a computer game, and sometimes these are separated from console games.
b) it wasn't full priced.

\/ that makes sense.

I'm pretty sure Halo 2 had the record, but SA came out a few weeks before H2 so SA could have set the record at that time before it was swiftly broken again.

I just love the excitement and atmosphere of a midnight launch. I've even been to launches with friends when I wasn't buying anything just to enjoy the feeling... then to play Wii for hours and hours later icon_wink.gif

The problem with a midnight launch is

a) you get home, feel tired as hell and play the game for like 60 mins before going screw it, i'm off to bed.
b) the next day at work is terrible.

A) I sell the game at the launch, so I can't get out of it.
B) Yeah I might as well sleep at work eh icon_razz.gif

Halo 2's still in the record books because of b). It was a full price game, made MS a profit of rougly $125 million USD in 24 hours. Also I'm not sure if Burning Crusade would count as a game, since it's an expansion set and not a standalone product.

I actually don't know if they are having a midnight launch there.I'm not to keen on midnight launches really anymore,As long as my pre-ordered goods are secured and I can pick them up when I'm ready, well I'm happy.

Holy Moly! Halo sure is popular.

Well I have a pre-order in for World in Conflict - I wonder how many millions of pre-orders have rolled in for that one?.....What?.....Only 6 so far? ....but there are three potential buyers still thinking about it? Oh...icon_cry.gif

Who care that I'm one of only a half dozen to have plonk down $90. At least I'll be playing a great game and at least "I" will have a piece of the Berlin wall that comes packaged in! icon_lol.gif

I went to the Halo 2 midnight launch, still remember that day. Waited in line, got my game, went home and slept due to work the next morning icon_lol.gif

Ive pre-ordered the legendary edition but as I understand it EB Games and JB are both out of allocations of Legendary editions with EB exhausting their allocations a few weeks ago.

If you really want to pick up the regular (1 disc) version for cheap, should buy some cheap 360 games second hand or even new for under $30 each and trade them into EB as I believe they are doing a trade in 2 360 titles and get Halo 3 regular edition with no more money to pay, or trade in 3 360 titles and get the collectors edition with no more money to pay.

I pre-ordered today and its $20 on top of the trade-in of 3 games to pay off the CE.

Whaaaat. My EB told me four 360 games for the collectors edition free.

Screw that, then.

I thought I saw it was 3-for-regular-edition too. I'll still do it, since its only going to work out to be $60 anyway.

Would there be restrictions or can i buy 3 call of duty 2's at $20 each and trade them and get Halo 3 CE for $60 total?
