PlayStation 3 version of GTA IV to feature no exclusives

360 News | Xbox 360 version contains the "complete experience".
When it was revealed that the Grand Theft Auto IV downloadable content would be exclusive to the Xbox 360 we assumed the content was exclusive for life, not just temporarily.

So what about PlayStation 3 owners? Well Games Radar queried Rockstar Games spokesman Hosi Simon on whether the PlayStation 3 version featured anything that would take advantage of the console. Simon stated, "not that I can think of."

"They're identical games," Simon continued. "We're not hardware makers, and we're not like a pawn between these companies, we try not to be as much as we can. We make great games for people to enjoy on whichever system they want. But I guess if you want the complete experience with the episodes, then yeah, you should buy the 360, I suppose," Simon stated.

The PlayStation 3 version may not feature any exclusives but we still can't help but get excited about Grand Theft Auto IV. The game looks like it is shaping up to be one of the titles of the year. Keep checking back to PALGN for the latest information on the game.

Well of course the 360 version will feature no exclusives as Sony didnt throw US$50 million microsofts way to get the rights to the episodic content icon_lol.gif

If Rockstar made exclusive content for the PS3 after MS paid so much money then MS would get major pissed and it could ruin the deal.

Just in light of that particular comment....it it exclusive to 360 forever? Because if it does eventually end up on the Ps3 then i'm definately definately definately getting the Ps3 version......but if Ps3 never gets the episodic content I might just play it safe and get the 360 version. Damn you Microsoft....I really don't wanna buy any game on the 360 when I have the option of both consoles unless it's for exclusive content or if the Ps3 release is too far away. Honestly if I wasn't worried about my 360 conking out or scratching my discs I would not have a problem buying the 360 version at all....stupid Microsoft...had to go and ruin a perfectly great console. icon_razz.gif

MS needs to give up seriously. This will not help them at all. XCRAP is no good. I dont see it going anywhere but down and GTA will not help it gain momentum.. Im so sick of all this XBOX News, its like Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton. They suck. Windows Sucks. XBOX sucks. But only difference is people actually pay money for Windows/XBOX which makes it even worse than Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton lol.

Exclusives will do nothing, what a waste on money MS!

Then I just won't buy the game.

Graphically it looks excelent. Gameplay wise, it might be good. But more than likely the majority of the missions will be drive this vehicle to this location and maybe kill a few dudes.

I just think it will be too much of a drag to know that your missing out on the entire gaming experience because another console bought the rights. That'd blow a big hole in it for me.

man this will be a hard game not to buy. It sucks yes but hey what can we do, just enjoy it.

Personally i think it will be a great game either way, so you'll miss out on a little but hell missing out on the whole thing would be insane.

but still with other content (non-exclusive) that should be enough for anyone even without should be enough

Well the other games never had extra content didnt stop me from enjoying them, i loved GTA San Andreas. I still pick it up and play every now and then.

I will get the PS3 version as that is my console of choice. The episodic content is a nice addition for the 360, but i find the controller of the PS3 much more accomodating. At the end of the day i will own GTA 4 and absolutely thrash it, by the time i finish the game and get my use out of it, episodic content will be virtually meaningless. Mabye too much of a good thing.

From what i have read the game will be awesome, however, i think there are still the graphical kinks that plagued the other games in the series. Drawing distances and frame-rates e.t.c. Iron this out Rockstar... NOW!

You listed Draw-distances as a problem that has 'plagued' the GTA series? The Hell?! San Andreas offered a freakin' massive draw distance on the PS2 alone, while the PC version could be pushed to render even more.
I'm sure that has been beaten in more recent games, but at the time I'm pretty sure that was the best thing going.

Something just gives me the feeling that, this game will still sell better on the PS3 at the moment.

Your right, my terminology got lost in the washing. I was referring to 'pop-ups" not draw-distance. You know, driving down the road and all of a sudden a building jumps out of nowhere.

Ah, yeah... now that sucked. Still, that was only really a problem on the PS2 releases (and possibly the XBOX ones?) - playing them on the PC was smooooth and lovely. I can only assume that the X360/PS3 hardware can handle the job sufficiently.

I have faith that Rockstar will 'wow' us once again.

just curious to what this content that rockstar keeps talking about for the 360, are they exclusive to only supply episodic content? like movies and such, if so then just goto your buddies house to get a quick history lesson.

and while they might have exclusive, does that mean that ps3 won't get any other content after the game releases, is everything after then made for M$ only?

Under contract the 360 will be getting Episodic content. I think its going to be two 'episodes' that you also have to pay for.

Obviously it will just be more missions/activities/achievements.

While I'd love the extra content, PS3 version for me.

The Ps3 is set to get it's own additional add ons but they can't be the two episodes that the 360 is getting so it's no big loss. From what they have said they will be making probably weapon and car add ons for Ps3 and 360 but no details on ether at the moment.

Personally I'm getting the Ps3 version, I'll prefer my multi-platform games on that over 360 simply because the machine it's self is much quieter when running and that's huge bonus for me.

There are only two issues for me.

Whether the episodic content is actually new content, eg new city locations to drive round in, new cars, new weapons. Or whether its just a collective group of side missions in the same city.

Secondly whether the game is region free on the 360. Considering the PS3 version will be released world wide for around $60-70AUS - I might just settle for the PS3 version seeing as I never complete the GTA games anyways.

They never said that it would get add ons in the form of episodic content though. Although I've never actually heard them saying about the PS3 getting anything extra at all..
