Xbox 360 to get a price cut on August 8

360 Rumour | "Content is king" says Microsoft.

The Hollywood Reporter has reignited the Xbox 360 price cut debate by stating that a retail source has claimed that Microsoft will cut the price of the Xbox 360 by $50 (US) on August the 8th.

Asked to comment by the Hollywood Reporter Microsoft stated "We have no announcements to make on pricing at this time. While price matters, content is king. And no other system is offering all the games people want to play this holiday at a better price than Xbox 360."

Cutting the cost of the Xbox 360 in early August could be perfect timing for Microsoft, with Bioshock, Stranglehold and the rather popular (in America at least) Madden NFL 08 due out in August a small price cut may sway those who have been holding off on purchasing a next generation console.

Well Sony didn't really cut the price. They just dicounted the older model.

I agree that right now console reliability is most important item on the to do list for Microsoft. A $50 price drop is almost meaningless.

12 months out from now my crystal ball says; pricing will be very very critical for both Xbox 360 & PS3 and I anticipate a price cut that's at least one third of current pricing levels. At which point the cost of a Wii will have more than halved in response. Sony needs to fix backward compatibility to 100% perfect, and serve up some real killer new titles. Maybe my $5 crystal ball is wrong - after all it's made in China right next door to the Wii factory and might be a fake.

The 360 has all three of those bases covered, backwards compatability is almost complete, it's cheap, and while......unrelaiable in some instances the fact it carries a 3(?) year warranty shows your money isn't wasted.

Don't forget that the extended warrenty only covers the three rings of death. So if you have some other problem, but it still works, then you won't be seeing any generocity from MS.

i thought they were already selling at a loss and lost a huge amout of money on hardware costs already, i mean it is microsoft but still there has to be a limit on their losses

Please, please, please! Would a price cut do anything though? I mean the rrp is $650 how and you can get it for like $530 AFAIK, so taking money of the rrp will do nothing unless companies want to go even lower than what they are allready.

I 2nd that, no console over $500 is cheap in my view. For something that goes faulty like it has its not a good buy. Content is king? Try quality first.

At least they said price matters. If they dont fix these issues they could finish 3rd

Man 500 bucks is cheap, what are we comparing 'cheap' too?A banana?Well yes, in comparison to a banana, the 360 is dear.Comapred to the next console it most closely resembles in terms of features(the ps3) is IS cheap.

Man 500 bucks is chump change nowdays, it's nothing.Go buy a video card for your computer and be floored by the !4! digit pricetag.

I really just want them to make the console more realiable, sure we have the warrenty but i should'nt have to brace myself everytime i turn on a console to see if it dies on me or not, and as said before that only covers the rrod so if some other crap were to happen to it i would'nt be covered unless i've taken out the extra warrenty which i don't think EB supports anymore.

The hassles of having to deal with faulty hardware should'nt have even been an issue to begin with, but still there is always hope for the elite, i hope they have fixed these issues. while they haven't included a hd-dvd drive (which i think they should've) thats not a real biggie for me since i've already got my next gen dvd player.
