Halo 3 to be less violent than Halo 2?

360 Rumour | Game granted an M rating in Australia.
The Office of Film and Literature Classification has officially classified Halo 3, giving it an M rating in Australia. Whilst the first two Halo titles have been classified MA15+, Halo 3 appears to only contain moderate science fiction violence whereas the other two titles contained medium amounts of violence.

A few months ago, Jack Thompson made headlines by sending a letter to Bill Gates stating that he will take action if Microsoft didn't take action to stop Halo 3 from getting into the hands of minors. Halo 3 has also been granted an M rating by the ESRB in America.

Halo 1&2 are not overly violent barely needing the original MA rating in the first place, no dismemberment or gibs, only blood splatters, I doubt it is less violent just that it don't seem as violent as it used to be.

Halo 2 featured a torture scene - that would have bumped up the rating.

^ I don't remember that.

Oh what, the branding? Totally tame.

+1 to that, it really showed a flaw in the rating system if Halo and Halo 2 were rated the same as the GTA games.

Yup, most people refered it as the ending of the game.

Well I'll be selling it to the 14 year old morons/kids. Hopefully it's MA so I can kick em out of the store at midnight if they don't get parents permission.

EDIT: nvm Crest, you got lucky...punk icon_wink.gif

Mmph. Back in the good only-fairly-recent days, no-one really cared anyway. I went and bought UT2k3 by myself and had no qualms. Assuming you're bordering on turning 15 soon, based on my experience they won't ask you for ID.

Now.. if you pre-ordered it, surely they won't ask for ID anyway when you go to pick it up?

The way ratings go, M = no blood. Seriously. Another good reason for me to not get Halo 3 til it's a classic title. Imagine, being lame enough to be intimidated by Jack Thompson.

Nope, it was the ability to shoot your fellow Marines that took it to MA 15+. Shooting extraterrestrials resulting in blood is only a M rating.

If you look at the actual rating it's "Moderate science fiction violence." so it looks like the ratings system has relaxed a little.

Yeah, watch any video of the game in motion, there's blood all over the place.

Friendly fire had better be a feature in the game because that makes it a whole lot more of an immersive experience watching out for where you are shooting as opposed to just mowing down the bottleneck with a gatling gun while your troops catch flak with no repercussions.

It will be still in there, it's just that it's all covered in the rating Science Fiction violence.

I'm curious though, since there is Science Fiction and Supernatural content warnings... Is there a Religious content warning?
There is just not enough arbiter faith going round on earth these days to imply a religious content warning in that content.
Maybe if the aliens worshipped jesus or moses or whatever.
So many gods to choose from these days it is like an evangelical smorgasboard. icon_razz.gif
