E3 2007: Ace Combat 6 demo now Live

360 News | Take to the skies with the E3 demo.
Hot on the heels of the Blue Dragon demo (which momentarily disappeared last night), Atari have announced that the demo for Ace Combat 6 Fires of Liberation is now available for download on Xbox Live. The demo clocks in at a rather meagre 309 megabytes.

While there are no specifics provided with regards to what you'll see in the demo, we do know that the demo will only be covering the single player part of the game. Ace Combat 6 is the first time that the Ace Combat series has come to Microsoft's console and the first foray into the "next" generation.

Ace Combat 6 Fires of Liberation looks likely to be available in Australia sometime in the fourth quarter of 2007.

I was playing it last night while waiting for the Nintendo Conference:

Didn't have sound on as my PS3 had to borrow my optical cable, but the graphics were pretty impressive.

You're flying an F-16 and you are partnered with another F-16 Pilot as your wingman, you need to defend one of your country's cities from invading forces. The level was quite similar to a mission in Ace Combat 4.

During the demo, you must shoot down B-52s and transport helicopters, while avoiding enemy fighter missiles. You have two weapon types at your disposal, the standard missile, and the Advanced Air to air type, which allows medium range lock-on to multiple targets.

Enemy fighters include F/A-18Fs, F-16s, Rafales, and Su-33s.

The in **** view is a lot better than the PS2 games, and allows a much wider field of view, with the **** covering less of the screen, but the ability to look down at it this time. The amount of on-screen action is also drastically increased, with the sky in this mission filled with aircraft, and lined with the smoke trails of missiles.

Really worth the download for me.
