Blue Dragon in August

360 News | Mistwalker’s debut title only months away.
Microsoft has confirmed that Mistwalker’s highly anticipated Japanese RPG, Blue Dragon, will be launched on August 24, 2007 across PAL countries.

Mistwalker is the development studio started by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, and Blue Dragon is the company’s debut title. Blue Dragon, a title co-developed by Mistwalker and Artoon, tells the epic tale centred on a young boy named Shu and several of his friends. The unlikely group of heroes possess unbelievable strength and magical powers to control phantom shadows that mirror their actions. The game features the character design of Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball Z fame) and music by Nobuo Uematsu (composer for Final Fantasy).

Blue Dragon is currently the highest selling Xbox 360 title in Japan, which surely counts for something. Hopefully the game makes a larger impact on PAL countries once it is release on August 24, 2007. You can read our early impressions of Blue Dragon here.

Wow, I didn't hear about that stuff before ^. Darn, looks like there's a 360 game that I really want. When those three guys are working on a game, you know it's going to be awesome. The character designs by Akira Toriyama brings back memories of DQVIII. icon_biggrin.gif

I wonder if there's any chance of it being ported to PS3..

^ Probably the same amount of chance as the next game from the ICO team appearing on the 360, really.

Adam dude, I really think that when the 360 is pretty damn cheap (read: in a year or two) that you should get one regardless of what you think of Microsoft as a company, purely so that you can experience games like Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. Eternal Sonata too, if that interests you. Just general stuff like that.

But anyway, if I'm not mistaken August 24th means that this game releases alongside BioShock. That's rather interesting. I mean, you would think that they (MS) would want to have all their big titles release with nothing else to compete with them so they maximise potential sales but anyway. Oh well, I'll hopefully be able to pick up both on the day but if for whatever reason I am forced to choose, BioShock will get the priority...

I am so going to get this. icon_smile.gif This looks awesome is there any word of the USA version being region free??

Cant wait for this I've been waiting for ages. Lost Oddessey, Cry On, Last Remanant and Eternal Sonata looking good for my Xbox right now. More tempted to get rid of my wii.

That's the funniest thing I've read all day. Hell will freeze over before you see this on Blue Dragon on the PS3. If you want to play this game, buy a 360.

Anyhoo if the game is region free I'm pick up the USA verison because I think the Japanese soundtrack is the one to get.

What have you heard that the US version will be different to the local release? I know it was mentioned before that it would have Japanese with subs and English dub. I believe that's a big reason for it being on 3 dvds.

If you set yourself on a mission to play all JRPGs in existence, you're in for big trouble. icon_razz.gif

Which isn't saying much, since you wrote that before 9am this morning. icon_razz.gif

Anyway, it was a just a quick question, and the answer is clearly no. Maybe I'll just end up doing what Nismo said, but then crestfallen's advice has a fair amount of truth in it too. icon_smile.gif

We always get games later most of the time. but on a few occasions we get the games before US. On these occasions I like to laugh too. This is one of them.

Presuming that IGN are correct, that is (which is about 50% of the time, from my experience). I wouldn't hold your breath, but you never know, this might be one of those rare occasions.

Yes. IGN did a preview a while ago. They confirmed the US verison has Japanese and English voice. The European verison will not have japanese due to the inclusion of european voice overs.

And people still reckon not having an HD format drive isn't an issue... tsk tsk icon_wink.gif

But I'm really looking forward to this, I love my JRPGs icon_biggrin.gif

Looks a little childish but nice for the 360 owners. Wonder how well it'll sell though and received.

From what I've seen Blue Dragon actually don't have this one. And it doesn't look very "fan servicey" either.

One of the reasons I got a 360 on top of the ps3 and wii, those reasons being:

1. Bioshock
2. Halo 3
3. Blue Dragon
4. Mass Effect
5. Too Human

Reckon this one is a candidate for multi platform though, given 360s lack of securing a solid market in JPN?

^Somehow I dont think company that was funded by microsoft would agree.

Being the boss of the most well-known and successful RPG company in the world, remind me why Hironobu Sakaguchi quit, formed his own company, made a similar game and used similar staff (Uematsu and Toriyama). Please do answer people.

From what I read "The Guch" had a disagreement with some members of square. I didn't realise it was he who inadvertantly caused square to merge with enix. I guess that was his f*** you for square screwing him over.

The guy who created Blue Dragon is rather anti-PS3. They is about zero % chance of this game ever gracing a Sony console.
