Xbox 360 software sales hit the 1 million mark in Australia and New Zealand

360 News | That's a lot of discs.
Microsoft has announced today via a press release that it has sold 1 million Xbox 360 software units in Australia and New Zealand since the system's launch in March last year. The mile-stone number has also set a new record which Microsoft pointed out as showing: "gamers across the region have resoundingly declared that the Xbox 360 is their next-generation console of choice."

Daniel Morse, Account Director, GFK Australia, stated, “Hitting the one million mark in a mere 14 months means Xbox 360 has reached the milestone faster than any previous console, and is currently outperforming other next generation consoles in terms of software sales. Titles such as Gears of War, Saints Row and Call of Duty 2, the top three selling Xbox 360 games, have played major roles in the success of the platform.”

Microsoft also took the time to point out a few interesting facts:
  • After a year on store shelves, the Xbox 360 console had the highest ever software attach ratio with the average consumer owning over 5 Xbox 360 games.
  • Over 160 high definition games are now available for the Xbox 360.
  • The number of available Xbox 360 games is expected to increase to 300 by the end of 2007 including Grand Theft Auto IV, Halo 3 and Bioshock.

Congrat Microsoft you so deserved this. I have bought many games for the 360 and will continue to do so. icon_smile.gif Achievements FTW

I bumped that number by around 40. Go me... I guess.

There must be alot of owners with only one or two games, because I know I probably bumped that average up. Heck, I think I bought five games at launch!

I only bought 1 at launch, but now have 11, I've only actually finished 1, I don't know anyone that as less than 7 at least. How many consoles are there sold in Australia?

Well Microsoft really need to sort out their hardware issues as the software side of things is very solid. I think Microsoft have been awesome with their own releases because games like Kameo, Gears of War and Viva Pinata were some of my faves on the system. I have ahh...man I forget how many games I got. I bought 3 at launch and 2 like a week later.

I just don't see how you can be a serious gamer and not have a 360 atm. It's got such a complete software line up atm and brillant online service.

i'm personally waiting for an elite, dont like seeing friends around me drop like flies when it came to their 360's dying.

Well, seems like I'm the only one who has owned an original Xbox for five years and still has only seven games.

Yet I'm going to get more than eight when I buy a 360 on June 14th (Forza 2 bundle..) The 360 definitely seems to have a more enticing game lineup.

As opposed to what, the PC???

The PS3 and Wii perhaps?

I'm personally waiting until I'm not poor as hell. Also, I'd like to be able to buy a console and have the piece of the mind that it won't break down within a year of purchase.

Although, I might not get one if we get a new PC game. I can't think of many 360 games that I'm interested in that aren't on the PC.

I know I've bumped that number up about 60-70 with all the games I've brought from stores icon_lol.gif

Well done microsoft

Read my post next time. I commented I never bought many original Xbox games, yet I'm going all out on the 360.

Congratulations, you get a medal for trying to flame me for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

It was a legit question (your sig is PC based) and since you started a new paragraph how was I to know you were still talking about the Xbox1??

Yeah that's my situation. Bioshock and Alan Wake are both coming to PC and since MS have Live Anywhere running, I can only guess that alot more games are coming to PC as well.

Shame about Forza 2 though... hopefully Gran Turismo 5 works out well.

Realising the topic was about the 360 and that it wouldn't have made sense for me to bring up the story of my original Xbox for nothing? Just because your sig (and avatar) is of Gordon Freeman, doesn't mean every post you make has to relate to him.. icon_rolleyes.gif

well, you managed to confuse me and Crest into thinking you were talking about a comparison with PC (for the same reason actually), and Spanca assumed you were comparing to the other consoles of this generation (PS3 and Wii), so i guess you deserve some form of commendation for ambiguity.

i'll let you google a suitable image though, i cbf.

with an average of 5 software titles per console, that points to roughly 200,000 consoles (less actually, since the average "over 5" and 1,000,000 / 200,000 = exactly 5.)

I'll admit that I overreacted to crestfallen's comment, but I didn't appreciate his comment when my post made perfect sense.

Yeah. More than the seven titles I bought for my original Xbox, how could that post be misunderstood?

But anyway uh.. back on topic.. the 360 achieves this because of its very mature software lineup. The Wii is still awaiting many of its most anticipated first party titles, while the PS3's lineup completely pales in comparison to both consoles.

This however is evidence that the playing field could be very much different this time next year.

Yeah, it's probabaly higher for most owners, but people who just bought the console would only have one or two games to begin with, which drops the average.

So just under 200,000 360s sold in Australia, I wonder how many PS3s have been sold so far here?

Whats the shame about Forza 2? So far I have only seen good reviews / scores?? What have I missed? icon_sad.gif
