Halo 3 launching September 25

360 News | And a day later in Europe.
Halo 3 will launch in North America on 25 September 2007, before reaching Europe the very next day. That's the word coming from Microsoft, which just sent an official press release our way. The news arrives just hours before the public multiplayer beta of the game kicks off.

Developed by Bungie and exclusive to the Xbox 360, the first-person shooter is comfortably one of 2007's most anticipated titles; indeed, PALGN's own readers judged it to be the title they were most looking forward to this year.

And now, there's just the small matter of four months to wait. While you twiddle your thumbs, head to our hands-on impressions of the multiplayer beta to see what all the fuss is about.

Very very early to be honest, i expect Metroid Prime will have to be out earlier.

cool, didn't see that one coming

I'm really really surprised by this. I would have thought they'd hold on to it in development with an aim of a Christmas release (ie mid-late November, as with Halo 2 and most other blockbuster games).

I suppose it could be a pre-emptive move on that typical blockbuster period. Get everyone to buy 360s in September/October, then have them set up for the remaining big releases in November. Who would consider buying a Wii or PS3 for a game in November if they've just bought a 360 for Halo 3 in September/October?

^Nah, they get the Halo bump in September, and then drop the price for another bump in November. Basically they're using the game to maximise sales of the hardware, not sales of the game itself.

Yeah that's sort of what I was suggesting (a hardware motivation). I was looking at it from a defensive strategy though, getting in early ahead of the system-sellers on other consoles in order to prevent those systems being sold.

that's what I thought.

Let all the diehard Halo fans but the machine at full price and then drop the price to get that final big push in sales just before christmas.

This is going to be released just 3 weeks after Bioshock. Poor poor Bioshock. icon_cry.gif

Well this is good news, I was expecting it around Nov/Dec. Hmm this will also mean another midnight launch. I'm glad I ordered the Legendary Pack as I want the cool helmet.

Well then um, maybe this isn't the topic for you? This is about the Halo 3 release date, not a discussion about Halo not being great.

I'm surprised also, and was expecting this to come around November like the other two.. I'm not so sure about the release date in terms of pushing 360 sales, this is really the big one. Halo IS the reason the Xbox got a foothold in the gaming market, and Halo 3 eventually arriving to the 360 is one of the reasons it has done so well. Microsoft are going to have to ride Halo 3 from then out for a next-gen victory (as Bungie have stated that Halo 3 will end the epic trilogy, ie only more spin-off games afterwards). At least with the original Xbox, Halo CE pushed initial sales, while Halo 2 solidified the Xbox's place among the greats.

I also feel that BioShock being a 360 exclusive (for consoles anyway) and being released so close to Halo 3 is a bad idea. Microsoft's own flagship game is going to overshadow one of their other blockbuster titles (that is unless as a result of this, BioShock is released on PS3 as well..)

Ahh.. with every second this date seems further away icon_razz.gif

Wow, way earlier than I was thinking. Great to see Bungie/MS doing another world wide launch as well. Top Job.

I don't see what the big surprise is, they always said Q3.

In any case this was predicted a good while ago but a lot of the major websites. GTA is October and there is another massive game in Novemeber which I cannot for the life of me remember what it is. Most sites predicted a September release.

I say good news, I cannot wait to sink my teeth into the multiplayer.

I doubt the will drop the price after 3 months - maybe EB games will have a sale or whatever, but Halo will sell at full price for quite a good while.

^ David was referring to a price drop in the console. I believe the RRP of the 360 is still at the $650 it launched at, regardless of various retailer deals. An official drop some 20 months after launch, and just before its 2nd Christmas isn't that hard to imagine.

I also was referring to the price of the console.

They need a price drop (and its probably the right time for one) but there is no way they were ever going to do it before Halo 3 launches.

Finally Halo 3.

This is by far the best news i have heard since the halo 2 announcement. LOL

Sony are really **** in Sep then, even thought they have like 2-3 big titles, halo 3 will **** all over them.

Man the 360 is serving up some gaming gold the second half of this year.

Feels great to be a 360 gamer. icon_smile.gif

Earlier than expected, though that still isn't going to make me care.

It'll be interesting to see all the other titles moved forward and back from their September release dates.

Looks like I have 4 months to get another 360. This is great news, Microsoft doing a packin with hardware?

all the other console get good games and im sitting here waiting for metroid to be released...

back to the topic, i think its great its out in september i might be able to use this to get myself a 360 *begins scheming*

Probably also helps the other Publishers know when to their market their products also. The last thing as stated above is releasing your title right on top of Halo 3 it would get drowned in the noise.

Not sure why but its not at the top of my Xbox 360 list I'd like to get Bioshock and Mass Effect first. But I will get it at some stage.
