Area 51 Blacksite demo released

360 News | Game still months away from release.
When a game is only a few days (or even weeks) away from release, it's not so surprising to see a demo released on the Xbox Live Marketplace. What is surprising however is that a demo for Area 51: Blacksite has been released by Midway, months ahead of the game's release.

The demo weighs in at 583MB, and Microsoft's MajorNelson has provided the following synopsis:

"Modern day fears come to life in a familiar, yet extraordinary setting: A small American town swarming with alien life. The government is desperate, struggling to contain secrets so terrible they can no longer be kept. Everything hinges on the actions of Aeran Pierce, a former Special Forces assassin thrown into one of the most explosive moments in American history."

Yeah got the demo, short. Maybe 5 mins. 3 diferent bad guys, tall one which splits when you get near to killing it. norm guys with guns and these things which charge you. It only works on 60htz tho which is bad for me. My tv doesnt lik 60 so everything is darker then it should on any game in 60htz mode. still playable but very dark on my tv. Oh yeah its blody fun!

Played the demo, it looks nice, by the time it gets an extra layer of polish it could maybe even look as nice as/better than gears but, that said, it needs a LOT of work - it has the potential, but unless it ends up coming out this time NEXT year, it won't be worth it - the framerates get very choppy in random parts of the demo, your squad is incredibly stupid (as are the enemies) and the 'one-button squad ordering' really doesn't work well, basically everything needs work, it's just a matter of how much.

rundown of the play of the demo itself -
Start - person talking to you, looks pretty good already, teaches you about the squad system, you have them break down a door for you
Then - Alien is killing someone, you attack the alien and a 2-4 minute period of mediocre FPS shooting ensues against multiple enemies
After - You kill 3 or 4 large crawling aliens with big heads...
End - there is a big explosion, you enter some kind of awesome looking bullet time (big potential here) then you see a worm alien burst out of the ground (think kind of like the size of the worm in LP), that is where the demo ends, and tells you a few things about what the real game will have.

I really should point out, despite how 'bad' my opinion of the game sounds, the game isn't due for a LONG time, and they could really make it into something nice - I would rather see it delayed for 6 months and be of a high quality than come out on time the way it is.

Didnt last 5 mins for me, too short. It could atleast have the first level. Free is free right? so cant complain I guess.

Did this demo crash anyone else's 360? I got passed the fight with the big tall alien, and the bit where you get to the road leading up to a truck, and it just stopped. Couldn't open the guide or anything.
Turned my 360 off then on again later and everything was fine... haven't played it again tho, too scared. Hope the red lights o death aren't on their way... icon_pray.gif
Anyways the demo seemed alright, better than I thought it would be, a bit choppy but something that will get better with time. Will keep an eye on this one.

Such a bad demo, for several reasons... the gameplay's like some unwanted HL2/Gears hybrid child, the graphics aren't anything special and the demo is far too boring and short. Most definitely will not buy this game.
