Tom Clancy's EndWar announced

360 News | More Tom Clancy on the way.
According to Pro-G, Ubisoft has announced a new Tom Clancy title, Tom Clancy's EndWar, for next-generation consoles in fiscal year 2007/2008. A strategy game, EndWar is set on the battlefields of World War III, and is in development at Ubisoft Shanghai.

"Our development teams are invigorated to be creating the first 100 percent next-generation Tom Clancy brand," said Serge Hascoët, chief creative officer at Ubisoft. "Our success with Tom Clancy franchises is unparalleled in the next-generation and EndWar will be a marvellous addition to the already critically acclaimed library of games. A strategy game like no other, EndWar will allow gamers to lead their own armies against hundreds of others online in real global locations on the massive battlefields of World War III."

Further information on Endwar will be revealed in the May edition of EGM. We'll report back once we find out more.

I'm a self-confessed Clancy whore, but even I'm beginning to tire of these games. They're all seeming to blend together into some sort of action-game blob, so a fresh take on the pseudo-realistic action-strategy title should be fun.

At least this rules out the possablity of it been a generic WWII game.

I think that was the joke, Spanca.

The other day I was given the choice of buying another Tom Clancy game or a kick in the nuts. I chose the kick in the nuts, because at leats the pain isn't drawn out over decades.

^ If it was a joke, I must have missed it as there's nothing at all that would relate this game to WWII. There haven't been any Clancy games set around then, nor was there any indication that this game would be, so the analogy was about as apt as saying at least it won't be another crappy karting game.

I'm still hanging out that it'll be a good karting game icon_razz.gif

i'm really looking forward to this game, i wish they make it so shooting the arm/leg/hands/feet disable the person or make it difficult to arm the weapon (having to use one hand instead of two) can be visible within the game.

This will probably make it hard to use on multiplayer but always like that element within games.

What's the story behind the Tom Clancy lable? Is it simply a gimmick now? I understood when it was used for Rainbow Six, because naturally; it's the original book the games are based off. Splinter Cell? Fair enough.. original characters and original story that would very likely be thought up by Tom Clancy. Then you've got Ghost Recon.. is that based off any of his works?

The same goes for EndWar?

What's the story morning glory..? Is there some credibility to his name on these games or is it just a marketing ploy?

Clancy writes the basic story behind the games. The Ghost Recon games do play like his books do, but they are more action based than political like the novels.

The main rule of the Clancy universe is that the scenario must be plausible. Endwar shows a potential future according to how current world events might play out.

Mike de Plater, the creative director of Endwar, has worked on some titles you may have played before. He was the lead designer on Total War.

In that case, its good to hear that the Tom Clancy's lable actually means he has contributed towards it. I was starting to get worried.

Im looking forward to the type of angle EndWar takes. Will it be made for online multiplay, focused on a captivating single player scenario or both?
