Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta begins May 16

360 News | About time.
Microsoft has sent out word today stating that the Halo 3 multiplayer beta will begin on May 16, and run through til June 6. Gamers who secured an invitation to the beta (via the Rule of Three competition or on specially marked copies of Crackdown) will be able to download the beta and sample what will be one of the biggest games of 2007.

The beta will contain three maps; Snowbound, High Ground and Valhalla, which represent a mixture of large- and medium-scale combat environments and are all brand-new. The Halo 3 beta will also contain some of the new vehicles, including the Mongoose ATV, as well as new weapons, such as the new machine gun and Brute Spiker.

Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 changed the face of console gaming forever,” said Shane Kim, corporate vice president of Microsoft Game Studios. “Gamers from around the world have logged more than 800 million hours on Xbox LIVE playing Halo 2, and years after its launch it remains the No. 1 title on our Xbox LIVE network. Bringing an early look at the multiplayer elements of Halo 3 to our passionate fan base is tremendously exciting for us.”

If you haven't managed to get an invitation to the beta just yet - never fear - copies of Crackdown with the Halo 3 beta are still available. If the one month wait is still too much for you to bear, you can whet your appetite with some new Halo 3 behind the scenes features at Bungie's website and on Xbox Live Marketplace (in lovely high definition).

We'll have an in-depth hands-on with the beta when it goes up and you might even see a few of the PALGN staff playing on there with you.

I'll have to start wacking myself in the testicles so that I can scream "OMFG u N00b!!!" with the correct pitch. My finger is already hovering over that new mute button with anticipation.

Should be a lot of fun, Beta doesn't seem to go for long though...

LHN: I musn't have paid enough attention, I always assumed that you had a 360.

I'm going to skip this, I would rather wait for the finished product.

A reward for when you finish! Good luck with the exams, hope that they don't muck up your Halo 3 experience icon_smile.gif

Finally! icon_biggrin.gif

That video looked pretty cool to.
I guess it is going to be the 3 maps they showed on the vid that are going to be available?

Also glad they took out those AI gun turrets, they sounded lethal.

I realise the graphics were from the Alpha build and aren't indicative of the final product, but seeing that video saw me coming away with a big meh. Obviously Halo 3 will be pretty sweet when we get to play it, but as I keep saying until it releases I really couldn't care about it.

Makes me feel bad in a way, but at the same time makes me remember that some of the other upcoming games this year are going to totally blow Halo out of the water too...
