Fresh Alan Wake shots

360 News | The first in a while.
By our reckoning, it's been over six months since we last saw any Alan Wake media, so a round of applause please for Jeux-France, which has just posted three new screens up from Remedy's promising adventure game.

For those still wondering what the fuss is about, Alan Wake is a free-roaming psychological action thriller set in an idyllic all-American small town in Washington. You play as the titular Alan, a bestselling horror writer who writes a novel about his darkest nightmares, which - shriek! - come true. Oh, and it's bee-yoo-ti-ful. Check out the new screens (note: they're from the Xbox 360 version, not the PC) here.

Nismo, i officially hate you icon_razz.gif

Max Payne 1 was a stellar game, how the **** did they pull off graphics like that back then? The character models were so-so, but the world environments were sporting almost photo-realistic textures, plus it allowed slo-mo kills, an overused gimick by todays standards and an obvious rip-off of the matrix, but it was the first to do it, and it done it well.

I loved the story, i loved the setting, the characters, the numerous noir themes (John Mirror and........the Pink Flamingo).......everything.Top, top game.

I'm going to have to side with Jibbs here - you're off my birthday card list now (which might sting a little if I was the kind of person who sent people cards... or even acknowledged that they exist) icon_razz.gif

Go out and grab copies of them both Nis, they're not hard to find. They also stand the test of time surprisingly well - I only just played through MP2 fully toward the end of last year and even then it still looked and played like a tub of oiled-up lingerie models icon_wink.gif

You can also get them both on the original Xbox and they're faithful ports. I'd highly recommend those versions (i have them).

Just a couple of things though....The Matrix did come out before Max Payne but Max Payne had begun development a long time before that and the bullet-time aspect was intergrated into the game code since the begining. So there is no evidence to suggest they did copy The Matrix, however they do pay homage to a couple of scenes from the movie.

Also Max Payne was the first game ever to simulate bullets. So previously in a game when you fired a gun the computer would simulate an exit point and an entry point for an invisible line coming out of the gun....so just basically only in 2 places. In Max Payne an actual projectile leaves the gun (like a real bullet).

I wasn't aware of this and only knew them as PC games. This PC that I use everyday is too crap to handle games of any sort so that's why I haven't had the chance to play the Max Payne games, or Half Life 2, or any other decent PC game in the recent years.

Another game where you can actually get a faithful port (HL2). Man I only played those games on Xbox. I haven't had a good PC since about Doom 3 (another game I played on Xbox). Atleast you can play a slightly better version of HL2 when it comes out on the 360, but if there are any big name games that you missed out on cuz you had a crappy pc...see if there is an Xbox/360 version as they are usually quite faithful (as opposed to the Ps2 version or something). A lot of developers actually ported a lot of games to the Xbox because the architecture was almost identical to a pc and it was actually quite powerful. Even Hellraiser is good for some midless blasting.

But yea definately make sure you pick up the Max Payne games. Like Jibbs said the texture detail (even on the 1st one) was way ahead of it's time and you'll find that they hold up even today. Also the games are hella fun if you're into awesome gunfights (the best in the biz imo....and I basically play games for this type of stuff). The Vinnie Gognitti stuff is the best! Oh and Film-Noir may infact be my fave style of story telling....because the comic panels and voice acting in Max Payne are some of the best ever. Also the music....also Max...he's hardcore....like a young dirty harry....man I feel like playing Max Payne!!

Whilst I agree that alot of good PC games were given faithful ports to the xbox, there are alot that weren't aswell.

Max Payne 2 has to be one of my favourite shooters of all time.

In terms of release dates, whatever a site has said is wrong. Remedy's release date has always (and will always) be "when it's done". Max Payne was like that, as was the sequel (although the sequel was dropped on people a little unannounced), I had three E3 trailers on my computer in anticipation for the first game and each one floored me more and more, '99, 2000 and 2001. Such an incredible game series, yes they were linear and a little outside the realm of reality (the dude is damn near invulnerable in the second game) but it fits that perfect noir setting, even these aspects. Seriously Nismo, you have to chase them up. Plus who can forget that phone call he receives in his dream that floors you with truly breathtaking writing talent. As for the environments the reason they looked so photo-realistic is that the developers went around taking photos of buildings, walls, ceilings, fences, etc. So they actually were photos pasted onto the objects.

As for Alan Wake it is my most anticipated game, hands down. Even Bioshock, a game I am salivating just thinking about, pales in comparison to the anticipation I hold for Alan Wake, a free roaming Max Payne? Yes ****ing please!

Yeah I knew about that and ironically enough, the 360 version was announced on the same day that I started looking for the Xbox version so I decided to just wait until the 360 version. Luckily for me it will also have Episode 1 and 2, not to mention Portal and Team Fortress 2. I will also be annoyed that I never got to experience the original Half Life, though. icon_sad.gif

As for chasing up the Max Payne games, I'm totally on it! Will be going to have a squiz at my local stores today for them, but I ask you guys too if you don't mind, can you lot keep an eye out for 'em too?
