Transformers game to feature original 1980s voice actors

360 News | Getting old school for the new school.
The new Transformers movie is a sure-fire hit with the oldies. Many a kid grew up in the 80s cheering on Optimus Prime and the team in their ongoing battle with the Decepticons. The man behind the famous catch-phrase "Autobots.. transform and roll out!" will be reprising his role for the upcoming Transformers game based on the motion picture.

Activision announced today that Peter Cullen and Frank Welker will get behind the wheels of Optimus Prime and be spreading destruction with Megatron respectively. Megatron is the leader of the Decepticons, the force doing constant battle with the defenders of good, the Autobots.

"As Transformers fans, we knew the importance of having the well-known voices of Optimus Prime and Megatron in the game,” commented Activision head of production Laird Malamed.

Cullen and Welker are no strangers to voice acting. Both veterans of their craft, Cullen handles the fellow Transformer voices of Ironhide and Slugslinger, while Welker voices Megatron, Soundwave, Buzzsaw and more. Welker has also appeared in many other well-known shows and games - The Simpsons, Kingdom Hearts II, and New Super Mario Bros.

Transformers: The Game is a multi-platorm master, set to be released on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 2, and PC versions. Traveller's Tales are developing the aforementioned versions, while Savage Entertainment is developing the PlayStation Portable title, and Vicarious Visions is working on not one, but two DS versions.

This is great, but what the game really needs is unlockable 'classic' skins, i.e. Extinguished Optimus Prime and Not-ridiculous Megatron.

I'm looking forward to the game and the movie, this is old school.

Well that is great news, the game is looking good so far and with the 80s voice actors will sound great also.

I can picture a mock ending if you transform as Megatron (into the handgun) if you aren't in a group of individuals, since you'd just fall to the ground and curse some at how useless you now are. icon_razz.gif

But yeah Activision could do something like what they did with the X-Men Legends series as far as 'paint jobs' go, though I doubt this since the movie doesn't look very open to interpretation.

ah its good that it'll be comming on the ps3 as well, i'll be looking forward to hearing the original voices again. I wonder if they'll keep megatron as a tank from the movie, and hope that optimus prime is the original and not what he is seen in the movie.

This is far greater news than any news about the movie. The game already sounds better than the movie.

Too bad Frank Welker doesn't do Megatrons voice in the movie. The worse thing about that is that Frank Welker will voice some other transformer in the movie.

^better Welker does any bot rather than no bot for the movie

Do you know who does Megatrons voice in the movie though?

Hugo Weaving is the freaking voice of Megatron.

If Megatron launched himself into a V-esque speech full of 'M's I would literally die of fanboyitis.

Weaving will pwn as megatron
