It certainly looks better than I'd imagined it would. That said, we'll have to wait to see it in action to know if the framerate can handle the inevitable battering of the inevitable and numerous a'splosions.

Other than that... Realistic physics? Destructible environments? Online multiplayer?

Fingers still crossed.

I wonder about the game in action too. With graphics like that, will it be as frenetic as the old games? Or will they take DOOM 3's less is more approach? I want to see a police chase / gang war with explosions and gunfire. This does look very cool so far.

Is it the 360 version? Or is it the PS3?

Yeah it looks real nice.I was expecting a bit more looks wise but still it will surely suffice.

I also love the Koyaanisqatsi rip off music.
Sounds like the city is going to be a huge bustling metropolis if it is to go by the music.
Also going by the average graphics it looks like it should be doable.

6 months to go....*sigh*

edit:
Also Awesome work PALGN on the download, was super fast too. icon_biggrin.gif icon_y1.gif

Average? I am failing to see what is 'average' about those visuals, Z.

I agree, the graphics look excellent, especially when you put the scope of the environment into consideration. The city will be a lot bigger than the mansion map in GoW, so it won't be as detailed. For a sandbox game though, this looks to really raise the bar graphically. Let's just hope everything else gets the same TLC as the graphics do.

The 360 is the lead development platform, and that's what we saw in the trailer.

Considering the scale at which this game will no doubt be at, the look of this game is freakn amazing.

Heheh, yeah well above average then.
They're not great they're not bad they're good.

Nice high textures over pretty low poly stuff. The HDR lighting looks great though.

I was spoiled by the coke ad. icon_sad.gif

But the coke ad was CG. What do you expect? Man, that looks way better than Saint's Row, and I thought that looked great at the time.
Yeah Saints row looked too cartoony, this looks nice and gritty which I like.

And as I said previously I'm sure this city is going to be absolutely bustling with activity as the music hints to it hence the trade off for high poly.

And DrTim, Liberty City basically is a New york parody.
The posters in the vid even say welcome to liberty city.

Hey , maybe there will be other cities as well? icon_idea.gif:

That looked better then expected, the lighting was good.

Too bad it was only a teaser trailer.

That may be so but the look of the city itself looked nothing like the LC I know. Anyone can only speculate at this stage so who knows, maybe its NYC, maybe its LC, maybe its some third place. I only hope they have a multi city thing going on (ala SA, WHOLE FREAKN STATE, thats what I'm talking about).

Imagine if we got all the cities from the previous games, somehow joined together in a massive state!

This morning I was thinking 6 months is a nice short wait, but now it seems like an eternity.

I dislike the gritty feel; GTA has always been cartoony, which is why so many people are able to level complaints that it's too violent; it doesn't look real. Changing the art direction to making it look more realistic is a step in the direction JT and co want Rock* to take, I think.

What about if every month they showed off a new area?
VCS next?

To be honest, no-one anywhere at any time should ever make any decision whatsoever at all that is based on any opinion by that knob.

I think it's good they are goin in this direction as the game was never supposed to look "cartoony", it just happened to look kinda cartoony as the limits that were placed on the graphics by the hardware (PS2), not to mention the scale. GTA III kinda looks that way, but SA is definitely clear to see that they wanted to achieve some relation to realistic graphics.

The 2D GTA games were cartoony owing to graphical limitations as much as creativity. GTA 3 started to look more realistic, VC was the garishly coloured 80's and SA also tried to look more realistic.
I think the new tech is giving them a chance to do what they originally envisioned. As far as cartoony sandbox games go you've got to love Crackdown, but then a lot of people complained about the cartoonish graphics in that. They wanted gritty and realistic on 360, and that looks to be what is coming.

Looking at the quality and complexity of the graphics, I expect one large, detailed city. I don't know if it will have countryside and villages, but I personally wouldn't expect 2 cities. I hope I'm wrong though icon_wink.gif

Actually hasn't there been some sort of clues from a Rockstar employee that hint at being able to play in a Russian city and a couple of other places as well?

Not sure where they originated but I saw them discussing it on neogaf (not looking through the 70+ pages of their GTA thread to find out where it came from)

That would be awesome. The scope of the GTA games seldom disappoints.

Cool trailer, i like the HDR lighting, music and its more serious tone. I hope that this GTA will differ from it predecessors in that it will have a serious and more complex story line. The trailer screams epic, I just hope the game end up doing the same.

It's all speculation at the moment, but I agree with you Klawrence. I was very dissapointed with VCS, it just hasn't changed much since GTA3. The MP is only Ad Hoc so I haven't had a chance to play it either. The city looks epic (from what we have seen) let's just hope the gameplay and story live up to that. The story sounds interesting, I like the idea of playing (what I assume to be) a Russian Mobster.
