360 News | Mexican authorities offer consoles for guns in bid to reduce crime.

Reuters reports that police in Mexico City have come up with a novel attempt to reduce gun crime in the more vice-ridden parts of the Mexican capital - they're offering a free computer to those citizens who turn in high-calibre weapons (such as machine guns), and a Xbox 360 to anyone who hands in a smaller firearm. Cash is also an option.

The program kicked off yesterday in the notorious Tepito area of the city, and organisers already have 100 computers and consoles to give away to those who give up a weapon. If it works, then the same program will be introduced in nearby Iztapalapa which, much like Tepito, isn't exactly the kind of place you want to be hanging around in at night.

All weapons that are handed in will be mercilessly crushed by the army.

Now all I need is a gun and a ticket to Mexico. Oh wait it'd be cheaper to just buy one wouldn't it?

Good way to think of getting rid of some guns though. Probably would've been more succesful if they giving away drugs.

I dont think 40C+ heat would be good for any console or computer.

Hmm I could hand in a gun and get a 360, or i could just hold them up and get all of the 360's and still keep my gun! XD~ profit

I think it's a good idea though, less guns and more gaming in the world is a good thing, IMO.

It's bad for people to kill so lets give them a console and a fps and let them kill each other on the net, it's safer that way

Imagine if someone went in there with their gun, held the place up and ran off with all the 360s! Yea I know....kinda hard to do when it's the Mexican police....still....it's the Mexican Police!!
