GDC 2007: First XNA Xbox Live Arcade title revealed

360 News | As Microsoft launches competition to win US$10,000.
When Microsoft launched the XNA program last year, it was widely assumed that user-created content would end up on the Xbox Live Arcade. Microsoft has confirmed today via a press release that Schizoid, a co-op action game "in which teamwork matters like never before" will be the first Xbox Live Arcade title built using XNA Game Studio Express.

Microsoft has also launched a competition for game developers to, "create visions in a world where they make the rules, shape the characters and create the evolution of the story". The competition, titled Dream-Build-Play, is a global contest which encourages entrants to create their own Xbox Live Arcade title using the XNA Game Studio Express tools. The competition is open to any user of XNA Game Studio Express and is open until July 2nd. Winners will be announced on August 13th at the Microsoft Gamefest in Seattle.

The company is offering a US$10,000 grand prize, and the opportunity for the winner's game to be published on the Xbox Live Arcade. More than twenty winners will be selected to win prizes worth a total of more than US$40,000. More information on the competition can be found at the official website.

Not bad at all. Microsoft are being pretty generous with their prizes, and I like the sound of people creating their own games. My creative sense is tingling!

... Seriously Retro, what the ****?

This is a pretty good move by Microsoft, with that kind of prize money up for grabs there'll be heaps of entries - which they'll then be able to pick and choose talent from for new, original XBLA content. Some good indy devs get a financial kick-start, and we get fancy new games... everyone wins! icon_smile.gif

Retro...seriously dude! With comments like that, you will never get to sex up a girls boobs. EVER. icon_razz.gif

Anyway, I think this is an excellent opportunity for people wanting to enter the industry. Prizes are just an added incentive/bonus.

I wonder how much they will charge for these XNA created games? I wonder if the creators will get the choice to release them for free or not.. Considering its Microsoft im guessing probably not..

They're free I think, the better ones may get put on Arcade. The idea is you email the games to each other to share them and then you upload them to flash drives and transfer them onto the 360.

Ohh serious? Thats awesome! I hope it really takes off. But if there not uploaded onto arcade by Microsoft isnt there a chance they could start creating 360 viruses?

Well you'd have to volenteerially upload these things onto your HDD so only idiots will be affected. Also I doubt you can actually infect the 360 due it's OS being non writeable so they can't change any files.
