Blue Dragon gets a TV show

360 News | In Japan, that is.
Next Generation is reporting that Blue Dragon, Microsoft's most successful release in Japan to date, is to get its own anime. The show is set to air on TV Tokyo starting April 7, and will be shown every Saturday at 9am thereafter. Hironobu Sakaguchi, Nobuo Uematsu and Akira Toriyama are all said to be involved in the show. The current order of episodes is 52, and the director is Yukihiro Matsushita, whose previous work includes Getbackers, Gakuen Alice and Hunter X Hunter: Greed Island

For manga fans, Blue Dragon Ral Grado recently started in Weekly Jump. The manga does have a significantly different tone and style to the game, given that it is currently written by Tsugumi Ohba, who manga fans might know better as the creator of Death Note.

With the popularity of anime and manga still on the rise in the West, having a weekly TV show and a manga to roll out with the game could prove to be a very good strategy for Microsoft - but whether they will do so remains to be seen.

Blue Dragon is currently scheduled for a release in June.

Interesting, not completely surprising though since there were some FF manag/anime.

Actually, it is surprising. Whilst Final Fantasy is one of the longest running (and most popular) video game series ever, Blue Dragon is a one-off RPG (as of now) for a poorly selling (in Japan) console. This makes a world of difference, and so it is very significant that it is getting its own manga and anime so soon after its release. And with some well-known names behind it, it shouldn't turn out too badly, either.

Typical square-enix, I wouldent be surprised if they made OVAs for this game either.

You realise that Square-Enix didn't make this game right Retro? Might be made by the old leader or SquareSOFT but he didn't run SquareENIX. So it's typical SquareSOFT rather than SquareENIX.

I think that this might help the XBOX360 do better in Japan and I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft had a hand in bringing this about.

Great move, Microsoft really wants this game to break into the Japanese market.

I think the guy who made Blue Dragon was the dude who created Final Fantasy, Hironobu Sakaguch.

^^

Yep, you would be correct in that thought. The leader of Mystwalker and the old Squaresoft are one in the same.

I know it is correct, I looked it up icon_razz.gif . I just said "I think" for no particular reason. icon_lol.gif
