GTA IV episodic content in 2008

360 News | Game itself still on for October.
Grand Theft Auto IV may only be a matter of months away, but those who buy the game will have to wait until 2008 for the downloadable episodic content that developer Rockstar has already promised will be made available.

That's according to a recent Take-Two financial report, which also confirmed that the game was still on course to make its October 2007 release date. Little else regarding the latest GTA opus has crossed our radar recently, though with the Game Developer's Conference taking place next week, we're hoping that will change soon.

Well doesn't worry me if downloadable content is in 2008, will hopefully mean it's properly tested and won't be buggy

IThink this eposodic content can swing either way in terms of how it effects the industry.

I think its definitely an oportunity for games companies to rush games out the door and then release the rest later, taking up valueable hard drive space in the process. The up side is if the eposodic content is used to add contatnt that is more an expansion pack to what is already an awesome game. only time will tell, but it worries me that day days of paying for a game and thats it is gone and consumers are going to be forced to continue paying for a game just so they can get the full experience.

I think this is a great idea for the GTA series. I really don't see it as being an excuse for Rockstar to skimp on what's included in the initial game as they've never been one to go light on content for the GTA games. I've always found that it's just as you're finishing the main story in GTA that you finally know your way around the city well but you no longer have anything meaningful to do beyond mucking around. I mean it's great fun to just fartarse about in those massive worlds, but if they can keep adding a little bit more to do then I'm all for it!

QFT.

The pacing sounds just about right, too (assuming that it'd be early to mid 2008) as it'll take a fair while to get through the main bulk of the game (including all the inevitable buggering about). I wonder if they'll be launching the game on 360 with less than 1000 achievement points, and then assigning the rest to the DLC? Not that they'd need to, though - It isn't like GTA needs help moving units icon_smile.gif

No, Karai they'd have the full 1000 points included with the game, then extra points avaliable via episodic content.

i no this might be a stupid question but what is the episodic content?

Think of small expansion packs. In GTA terms, it could be a couple of missions, more weapons/vehicles and controversy.

Not surprisingly, but I agree completely with Spanca.

By the end of the main storyline I have always found that it is then that I will know the city/ies as best as I can and to not have anything to do with this knowledge is kinda annoying. Obviously you can go and search for the hidden stuff and I do, but it's not the same as missions or activities to do or whatever. So GTA and similar games are definitely the type to benefit from episodic content and I can't wait to see what Rockstar do with it when it comes time for it. icon_smile.gif
