Activision licenses Unreal Engine 3.0

360 News | More money for Epic.
Activision has announced that it will be utilising Epic's Unreal Engine 3.0 for an unannounced title. They now join the long list of Unreal Engine 3.0 licensees, which now includes many big names such as Microsoft, Sony, Ubisoft, Midway and Square-Enix.

Speaking about the deal this morning, Activision head of production Laird Malamed stated “The Unreal Engine is one of the most technically advanced engines on the market and is a perfect fit for our upcoming action game. The engine’s robust suite of programming tools will enable our development team to deliver what is sure to be an amazing game experience.”

Mark Rein, vice president of Epic Games, said “We’ve admired them for a long time and we’re pleased that they’ve chosen to use Unreal Engine 3 and we’re confident they’re going to make a great game with it.” Presumably while swimming in a large vat of money, like beloved Disney character Scrooge McDuck.

What will Activision's next game be? Will it use the engine as well as Gears of War? Is Unreal 3.0 the new Renderware? Stay tuned to PALGN to find out.

Really? funny he has never meantioned this before now. Watch as Mark Rein does his usual brown nosing routine each time a customer pays for a license. icon_lol.gif

I love Epic, but I really loathe Mark Rein, he says some of the stupidest things sometimes and feels he can get away with it becuase his company made UE3.0

Absolutely - Epic is well...EPIC!
UT for starters is a certainty for my 20 games of choice list if stranded on a desert island scenario.

Problem for Epic was hitting gold with Unreal and UT brought a lot of financial success and in turn new shareholders - It also brought new management replacing Tim Sweeney the previous boss / owner who was part of the coding team for nearly a decade - Tim loved making & playing games. Rein in contrast is just a loud mouthed sales person who doesnt even play games himself - let alone make them.

More devs using the UE3.0 can only be a good thing.

The unreal 3.0 engine seems to be the cats pyjamas at the moment.

Capcom are licensing the engine now too.
