Retailer slashes price of 360 Core

360 News | Others expected to follow suit?
A leading online retailer has snipped the price of the Xbox 360 Core unit to just £149.99 (AU$370 / €223), making Microsoft's console £30 (AU$75 / €45) cheaper than Nintendo's Wii in the UK. The revised price appeared on Play.com roughly 24 hours after UK-based wholesale firm Makro announced that it had lowered the price of an Xbox 360 Premium system to £199.99 (AU$495 / €300). In both cases, Microsoft has stated that no official price drop has been announced.

Cheap indeed, and contemplating the motives behind such generous reductions is intriguing: is this simply down to the PlayStation 3's imminent arrival in PAL regions, or perhaps a further sign that a souped-up 360 is in the works?

AU$370?

I haven't even been considering buying a 360 at its current price, but for under $400? SIGN ME. (Up, preferably.)

$495 for a premium? I'd hit it.

$495 AU for premium. Id buy it in an instant.

seems like MS could be onto something good if they do follow through with a sub-$500 premium Xbox.

i'd seriously consider getting one at that price also.

There were a few Cores going for sub-$400 in the Christmas sales, but I really do mean a few at selected stores.

Just curious, when buying a 360, you want the premium version right? That means wireless controllers and other additions.

Is someone able to briefly explain the major differences between premium and normal?

If M$ do this before european launch, you would have to think it would really hurt Sony.

Premium at $499 and a game or free 12 month LIVE subscription = buy for me.

I'd say the price drop is more for retailers to clear their stocks before the 120gb model comes out, just hope that retailers here in Aus follow suit.

Really? Hasnt anyone thought they dropping the price of the Core only cos the Core never really sold and they want to clear out old stock? Premium still selling fine so why slash the price so drastically of something thats still selling

AU$370 tard pack? I'd hit it. I'm a dollar menu guy.

Great price there, sounds like it's got people tempted. A very good move by the stores, if Australia follows suit, there will be a mini Xbox360 boom. icon_smile.gif I'd really consider getting one if there more games that interested me/I hadn't already splashed out on a PS3.

Woah, that's such a nice price, and very very tempting to get, especially a $500 premium. Should be interesting to see what bundled games could be included at that price point as well.

Yeah, it looks like they're trying to clear stock for the new model.

Great news for anyone who wants to pick one up.

Oh my - even I would consider going 360.

$500 for a premium?? damn, I wouldn't even regret it if the $750 blackie hit the shelves the next week - I wouldn't even question buying it if it came with something really cool like 12 month XBL, or 3000-5000 M$oft points.

I got my $600 Premium about 4 weeks ago...this breaks my heart =[

Good thing though, some friendly competiton never killed anyone. Should boost sales a bit.

Everyone changes their tune on the 360 when it drops by $100?? Thats like, 1 game difference.

Your choice of console should be based on your projected enjoyment, not price.

I would enjoy a Ferrari or a BMW more than my 94 Toyota Camry. Doesn't mean the price difference between them suddenly becomes irrelevant.

And besides, all the theoretical $100 off is doing is making the purchase earlier for some people - I doubt anyone that is excited about the possibility had decided they would never buy a 360.

Absolutely right. It's the same with any price drop, it's an incentive for people who found the console too expenive originally.

This isnt official price cut right? Its a good bargain hunting for those who want 360.

Theoritically this is a 16% decrease while a Ferrari is about 4000% the price of a Camry.

Isn't the months worth of gaming you could have already had worth more than $100?

Meh, maybe I just love my games more than others.

actually, it's re-affirming my original tune actually. i always said i'd get an XBox 360 when i felt the price warranted one, and at $500 for a proper version, it's fast approaching that threshold.

projected enjoyment, and overall cost are not mutually exclusive.
