Former Clover members working on RE5

360 News | Some good news for those following the progress of Clover.
GamaSutra has confirmed that employees from the recently closed Okami developer Clover have been moved on to work on Resident Evil 5 and Keiji Inafune's mysterious Wii project.

"Some of the team that worked on Clover titles are now helping Takeuchi-san on Resident Evil 5, helping Inafune-san on a new title for the Wii," Capcom's vice president of marketing Charles Bellfield revealed.

"I think it's very much the skill set still stays in the company when those individuals stay and, unfortunately, three individuals chose to leave. What actually happened is Mikami-san, Kamiya-san and Inaba-san chose to leave the company and do something else and the rest of the Clover team was just incorporated back into the rest of Capcom's development talent pool," he says.

We're glad to know that the developers are working on something - if the rather excellent Okami is anything to go by we should expect a top class product when Resident Evil 5 is released; whenever that may be.

Well we knew at least some of former Clover members would go to Capcom, it was guaranteed. So maybe there will be some creative puzzles in RE5 instead of illogical tripe.

^ Hey, show RE some respect icon_razz.gif

I have a special place for the RE series. Not because I'm a huge fan, but because when it was originally released its gameplay and atmosphere was completely unique. It takes balls for a studio to make a game that different.

EDIT: bah, i was searching for a link on the Wii version but gave up.

Umbrella Chronicals, all we know about it, its meant to have just about everyone from 1, 2 ,3, 4, Code Veronica and possibly Zero and it takes advantage of the controller. I expect to see more about it at GDC

For UC, wasn't there also gonna be a prequel section for RE5? I'm not even 50% certain of that, but I swear I have heard it in some form or another.

Do you think when they officially unveil UC, they will show more of RE5? Because we haven't seen it since TGS 05. I want to see more of RE5. icon_sad.gif

Well, this is good news indeed. Clover were an awesome team, so I hope to see more amazing work in the future! God Hand 2 or Okami 2 would be very nice. icon_smile.gif However, there is more likely to be original titles.

I don't expect a prequel to RE5, prequel to RE4 is meant to be an important part of the story

As far as Clover Studio's go, the 3 main guys left, this guy at Capcom gave the impression that those 3 guys basically were Clover which is why the rest of the team is integrated back into Capcom

The beauty of Capcom is they don't really have development teams and they share their talent around different projects which seems to work, look at Res Evil, Devil May Cry etc, Capcom make great content. Clover indeed did work, but I think whatever those 3 guys are going to work on next will be something to look out for.

I think I've heard there's a prequel to RE5 in Umbrella Chronicles as well.

Interested to see what the Wii game is too - the wording makes it look like it isn't RE UC but a different game.

It is good to hear that the creative talent from the people of Clover is not going to be wasted. I am looking forward to hearing details to both RE5 and Umbrella Chronicles. Hopefully we will hear something soon.

As far as I know, the game mostly focuses on Umbrella's demise and the all the shady things going on before RE4. Either way its gonna be good.
