Hour of Victory announced

360 News | A WWII shooter exclusive to the Xbox 360.
Midway has announced via a press release that Hour of Victory, a first person shooter set in World War II is currently in development exclusively for the Xbox 360.

The game will use the Unreal Engine 3.0 and will apparently combine authentic historic World War 2 battles with cinematic gameplay. Gamers are able to play each level in the style they choose, whether as a covert operative, specializing in stealth and sabotage; a British commando proficient in the guns-blazing frontal assault; or an Army ranger who excels in sniping and demolitions. You'll also be able to take control of any vehicle on the battlefield.

“Hour of Victory is an entirely new World War II experience designed exclusively for the Xbox 360 that will place players in a pivotal role during key battles using the gameplay style they choose,” said Matt Booty, senior vice president, worldwide studios, Midway. “Using the powerful Unreal Engine 3.0 we’re able to create exciting, cinematic moments that allow players to feel like a hero, not just another cog in the war machine.”

We'll have more details on Hour of Victory as soon as they become available.

You can mock this game all you want - but with someone named 'Matt Booty' endorsing it I have full confidence that it'll be nothing short of amazing icon_wink.gif

(seriously... what a great name!)

Yahoo Serious is also a great name. Didn't make his films any good though icon_razz.gif

I can't roll my eyes enough at this announcement. I'm sick to death of this genre of games. Sure I can (and will) stay away from this game, but it doesn't make me any less frustrated that all this effort they'll put into making this derivative cash-in could have been better spent making something worthwhile.

Yeah yada yada yada,
I'm also sick to death of the genre but because it is basically clone after clone of the same type of game.
This game if done well should be a stark contrast to linear point n shoot shooters with recreated battles and open to how you want to approach the objective. Also the U3 engine will make it scrumptious looking.

But yeah, WWII is getting old.Let's have a real gritty Vietnam era war game with all the makeshift weapons and over the top weapons, like the hercules transport which basically had huge rapid fire cannons mounted on the side of the tail for ground obliteration.
Or the dual M60 with one person holding the stand at the front of the machine gun while the other person was on the trigger, meanwhile both are rushing the targets.(not ground mounted)

I'm hoping these new engines are going to make war games the way they would have looked.

I think they can't do the modern day battles well because they're afraid of offending someone. (Didn't China kick up a stink about Battlefield 2?) While the Germans can't exactly say anything about the games can they? They lost, most wars since then have mostly been "draws".
