Gears of War patched

360 News | Coming through shortly.
According to Eurogamer, Epic's VIP Mark Rein has detailed some of the changes that have been made to Gears of War's online experience. The patch for Gears of War should "start pushing through the system" today.

The full list of changes for Gears of War are:
  • Fixed aspect ratio distortion when using VGA cable with 4:3 displays at resolutions higher than 640x480
  • Fixed voice issue with new players joining Player Match games in progress
  • Players can now get the Achievement for "Dish Best Served Cold" when using Troika turret to kill RAAM
  • Fixed rare situation where host could loop countdown and never start match
  • Fixed rare situation where players could get stuck after chainsawing in multiplayer
  • Reduced Grenade Tag melee distance
  • Enabled “Strict” NAT check on host to prevent possible connection issues
  • Optimized server browser queries to return results more quickly and prevent scroll bars from hiding quality of service icons
  • Reduced number of possible revives in Execution to match Warzone
  • Removed host name from Ranked match server browser
  • Disabled security cameras in Ranked matches
  • Ranked matches now require balanced teams (3v3 or 4v4)
  • Increased penalty for quitting a Ranked match to -50 points
  • Added additional cheat detection code
  • Additional housekeeping updates
Nothing particularly exciting, but when combined with the two new free maps on Thursday morning, it should provide more than enough reason to chainsaw your way through the weekend.

"Reduced Grenade Tag melee distance"

Hahaha, I can see some people being a little upset by this. Good change I say - the tag distance always seemed a little large. Although, that may just be the sour grapes talking after being tag-killed so many times icon_razz.gif

So that's why Gears of War doesn't work too well with my VGA cable...

Latency fixes FTW. And we can finally join each others matches slap! icon_razz.gif Also, mic glitch gone = a godsend.

Personally though, I think the nade tags were fine as they were. They were annoying at some points when someone consistently abused them, but then again that just gave the message of "play better and wtf you letting them get so close for anyway" icon_razz.gif But at least we won't get whiney bitches anymore.

So was this the update that seemed like a normal dashboard update, rather than an in-game one? Because as I was playing Prey earlier in the evening I got a message saying that I had disconnected from Live, then when I tried resigning in it told me that there was a new Xbox Live update which I grabbed. Had no idea what it was for so yeah, is this it?

Also what's with games updating so much? It seems like every second or third time I load a game it has another update that requires downloading, are they actual real updates or do some updates in games clash with others - requiring a re-download?

Tagging was so annoying, you could get tagged a good few meters away. Hate tagging.

Interesting update, and pretty much the exact opposite of what I was hoping for. Instead of adding a party system to ranked games, they have removed the hostname as you can't find the guy you want to play with. Why?!? Actually in Australia it will be easier, because most games in the US will appear red and an aussie connection full bars.

But yes, good they are fixing those annoying voice/connection issues.

I don't think that was it Nis. I got that console update, then played Gears and didn't notice any differences.

Man that sux icon_sad.gif

I never even stuck a grenade to anyone online, guess it's definitely not happening now.

^ It's not as hard as it sounds, Grenade Tags are still rather easy to do when you are up close and personal with your opponent. The only difference now is that you can't tag them 'magically' when you are a fair few steps away from them anymore.

Yeah, those 'magical' tags are the ones that really stuck in my craw - which is why I'm pleased it's been addressed. I also like the idea that we'll have even more suicide tag-kills now. They're great fun to watch icon_wink.gif

Has anyone else noticed this game runs considerably slower now over LIVE???

Or is it just me.
