New Gears of War content available now

360 News | New maps and video available from the Live Marketplace.
Microsoft has just announced via a press release that new Gears of War content will be available for download for free via the Xbox Live Marketplace from early Thursday morning, January 11.

Update: It appears these maps shipped early and are now available on the marketplace. The content is 98mb in size and is completely free.

The new content will include two maps. Microsoft provided the following descriptions;

Raven Down: A Raven Helicopter has gone down in the middle of a large scale battle with the omnipresent Locust Horde. Gears have taken out the Seeder and gamers join Delta Forces moving into the crash site from all angles to search for survivors.

Old Bones: In an attempt to eradicate any traces of human history and culture, the Locust Horde has emerged under Sera’s Capitaline Museums and has begun to destroy them brick by brick. Each gamer’s mission is to help the Delta Force recapture the museums before all remnants of humankind’s existence are obliterated.

To coincide with the release of the map packs, there will also be an introductory video hosted by celebrity game designer CliffyB available for download via the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Finally, thanks to the content release being sponsored by the Discovery Channel, there will be 2 million Microsoft Points given away to celebrate the event. Although currently not working, on January 13th you will be able to visit http://www.readyaimfuture.com to find out how to win these points.

Zelda will be lucky if I ever get around to finishing it but Gears of War I finished twice in the space of like 2 - 3 weeks and I barely get much time for gaming and when I do it's never to replay a game. I haven't replayed a game since Resident Evil 4....even Dead Rising after clocking it I started a new game and could only play it for another hour before turning it off for good.

Zelda would be faring a lot better had it been released on Gamecube when it was supposed to.....because as a Wii game (Wii's best game actually)....it's shockingly last gen!

I'm looking foward to Resistance but mainly because of the theme and genre. The weapons in that look awesome too.

If anyone goes to gametrailers, they had a special on Resistance VS Gears.

I dont personally like Gear, I managed to play first two levels on first difficulty setting, played the ending part on casual and played first two levels on hardcore. All co-op, since I dont own the game. Its a good game for other people but not something I'm into.
I never said Gears was a bad game, I think its nice but not "special" like everyone treats it.

I am really surprised that a few people are bored with it already

Resistance looks much more appealing to me
I never implied that post was directed to you. It wasnt, its my general feeling of gears.

I dont like either resistance or gears, I prefer halo than them but I'm not a fan of halo's gameplay to begin with, but I like the story of Halo though.

Yeah I dont think its for Aussies actually:

Eligibility: Future Weapons Microsoft Points Give Away is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 18 and older as of the date of entry. Employees of Microsoft and Discovery Communications, Inc. (the “Sponsors”), and their parent subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising and promotion agencies and its immediate family members and/or those living in the same household of each are not eligible to enter. The Promotion is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Void outside of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia in Puerto Rico and where prohibited by law.

But for all Americans it should start today, pretty nice give away too!
