New Gears of War content available now

360 News | New maps and video available from the Live Marketplace.
Microsoft has just announced via a press release that new Gears of War content will be available for download for free via the Xbox Live Marketplace from early Thursday morning, January 11.

Update: It appears these maps shipped early and are now available on the marketplace. The content is 98mb in size and is completely free.

The new content will include two maps. Microsoft provided the following descriptions;

Raven Down: A Raven Helicopter has gone down in the middle of a large scale battle with the omnipresent Locust Horde. Gears have taken out the Seeder and gamers join Delta Forces moving into the crash site from all angles to search for survivors.

Old Bones: In an attempt to eradicate any traces of human history and culture, the Locust Horde has emerged under Sera’s Capitaline Museums and has begun to destroy them brick by brick. Each gamer’s mission is to help the Delta Force recapture the museums before all remnants of humankind’s existence are obliterated.

To coincide with the release of the map packs, there will also be an introductory video hosted by celebrity game designer CliffyB available for download via the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Finally, thanks to the content release being sponsored by the Discovery Channel, there will be 2 million Microsoft Points given away to celebrate the event. Although currently not working, on January 13th you will be able to visit http://www.readyaimfuture.com to find out how to win these points.

Does anyone else have a problem with the http://www.readyaimfire.com link?

^ Yea it just seems like a web-hosting site (which is usually where we end up when a link is incorrect/doesn't exist)

I'm a little confused....the descriptions sound like single-player missions but I highly doubt that and nowhere in the article does it state one from the other, so could you please clear this up for me....multiplayer or single? I'm pretty sure it's multi....but I can dream..

Ugh I think thats the story of how the map came about, or provides the setting for the map or whatever.

Neo, hosting isn't an issue. I've hosted many games with the PALGN boys which have ran great.

I'm not doing anything that day anyway and I'll get the internet all to myself for the two days.

Gears is boring as hell man.

I know, I struggled through it and only completed it because I had to, and I'm yet to play more than one game online (although that one game was with Frozencry by 100% chance). Point is, I'm sick and tired of renegadesx constant trolling and was merely making a tongue in cheek remark that Gears has outsold Zelda.

Yeah I realise where the comment was aimed. My opinion isn't overly informed either as I've only played maybe a total of an hour of single player/co-op and have also watched people playing some of the solo missions. So yeah I was just mucking around also.

It's one of those games I wish I liked more. Maybe need more time with it when I get the tres-seis-cero.

But either way, F**K YES!11!11

IMO gears is a great blast (Yes its a short game and doesn't last that long), single player and even more so co-op but death match style muliplayer bores me to tears, as does every other FPS deathmatch type of game. Like Ugh has said, I hope that the new content is single player. Which brings me to Zelda, but I might have to start a new topic for this discussion.

i didnt find GoW boreing it all the first time i clocked it i loved it and ive done it 3 times after that and am onto my fourth. But i guess it just might come down to the setup/feeling i had while playing this game.

I am yet to play through in co-op or get any of the multiplayer acheievements. I still got so much more to go.

But thats me, that takes his games slooowly. Barely into Zelda yet.

If anyone goes to gametrailers, they had a special on Resistance VS Gears.

I dont personally like Gear, I managed to play first two levels on first difficulty setting, played the ending part on casual and played first two levels on hardcore. All co-op, since I dont own the game. Its a good game for other people but not something I'm into.

This was a nice surprise. Obviously Epic have already claimed that they would deliver to their fans extra content but yeah, it was a nice surprise. Bring on Thursday night and then after that, the weekend. Full of Gears multiplayer. icon_biggrin.gif

I never said Gears was a bad game, I think its nice but not "special" like everyone treats it.

I am really surprised that a few people are bored with it already

Resistance looks much more appealing to me

^ Resistance looks even more generic than Gears. I'm hardly a fan of GoW, but Resistance looks like a weak competitor.
