Virtua Fighter 5 coming to the Xbox 360

360 News | The PlayStation 3 loses another exclusive.
One of the most compelling reasons to pick up a PlayStation 3 was the upcoming Virtua Fighter 5. However, Sega has confirmed today that the game will be coming to the Xbox 360 later in the year.

"Bringing Virtua Fighter 5 to the Xbox 360 offers us a platform with power to handle the astonishing visuals, the complex and varied fighting styles of all the customisable characters and will undoubtedly put Virtua Fighter 5 into the hands of a gaming audience craving for a highly polished and credible fighting game.” said Matt Woodley, Creative Director, at Sega.

With the PlayStation 3's average beginning, it seems that the console is suffering blow after blow, lots of titles have been delayed and the console is losing exclusives; Virtua Fighter 5 was a big exclusive too. Stay tuned to PALGN for the latest information on Virtua Fighter 5 as soon as it becomes available.

So what good exclusives do sony have left that are 1st/2nd party? Gran Turismo, God of War, Ico, Shadow of Colossus.

Those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head. Are Insomniac and Naughty Dog exclusive to Sony? Or would they too be able to produce a game for another platform given the right funds.

And yes I left Killzone out on purpose....might aswell not even exist in light of Halo 3.

Also what's the deal with second party? Is that like Rare....where they have a different company name but are actually owned by Microsoft?

Edit: I looked up the definition of second party in wiki and got this:

Quote
In the video game industry, a second-party developer is a developer who, while being a separate entity from any console manufacturer, is tied to a specific one usually through contract or partial ownership and makes games specifically for that console manufacturer.

The defining characteristic is that a second-party developer is a company completely separate from the manufacturer, while first-party developers are considered to be a "division" of the console maker itself.

A second-party developer should not be confused with an internal first-party studio. For example, Intelligent Systems, developers of the original Metroid games, is an internal Nintendo studio and therefore not second-party. Camelot Software Planning, developer of the Golden Sun, Mario Golf and Mario Tennis games, is an example of a second-party developer.

The term "second-party" however, is not an official business term like "first-party" and "third-party", but is used simply to distinguish between third-party developers who develop games for various video game consoles, and developers who while still a third-party, provide software only for a single video-game console.
Still not sure which companies are which. Looks like Rare are 1st party. Guess i'll just need to look up whichever company and see what they fall under.

I thought Second Party were just independent studios that only develop for one company. (Rare would be first party.)

^ So the only thing binding them would be the expiry date on the contract right?

i wonder how many Second Party developers even exist anymore. it doesn't really strike me as good business practice to support only one platform without being at least partially owned by that platform.

Is interesting, I mean, it's getting to the point where you could almost have one or the another. Last gen you couldn't really have a PS2 or Xbox as they were some big titles on both.

Losing the next Dragon Quest has also got to hurt Sony.

I just think in the long run us gamers are the ones who will suffer.

Imo exclusive titles or exclusively developed titles are usually a lot more polished and bug free.

I have to agree with you on the basis that when developed for a single platform, the games are generally more polished and bug free, ugh.

But at the same time, the 360 and the PS3 (without getting all technical) are generally equal platforms to develop for, ie. What can be done on PS3 can be done on 360, right?

If so, I'm not too worried about games developed for both platforms.

I was never a fan of the VF series, I was more of a tekken player.

Also what happened to the team behind the Katamari games?
First I heard that they were never going to do another Katamari sequel or progression on the series and wanted to veer away from being only known as the developers of the Katamari game and venture into new game types. then I heard that they were back on for the PS3.
Anybody know?
(this is not a thread-jack,PM me please if anyone knows because I'm dying to know if there will be another one)

yeah considering how good the Jak series looked and played on the PS2, i would have to agree with you.

Wow another exclusivity gone.

I'm not sure what's greater, the damage to Sony or the bonus to Microsoft in having another big name fighter series on board besides DOA.

Wow, more bad news for Sony, but good news for me. Now port MGS4 and I'll be all set.

Virtua Fighter is big in Japan more than North american or PAL regions, and it does do better than Tekken.
Well it does more to cement th 360 as a fighter game console in Japan, it just needs Soul Calibur and Tekken and it will have every fighting series.

Except Smash Bros and perhaps some 2D fighters.

Reasons to buy a PS3 go down again. Just DMC and FF13 left that I care about so far.

I know Insomniac got tons of support from Sony while making Resistance, if you're making a big enough title the support you get from the console maker might be enough to stop you going multi-platform. You also don't have to compromise to get both formats working with the same assets I guess. Whether that makes up for selling to the relatively small number of PS3 owners, who knows.

Yeah soul calibar, but tekken isnt as popular in Japan as Virtua Fighter. But I think they need 2d fighters such guilty gears, street fighter or final fight or king of fighters.

I wouldnt count sony out just yet, they still have 1st good titles like ICO, God of war, that wont ever leave sony's console, as well franchises that will still stay.

*phew* when I first blew my PS3 budget on a X360 I was worried I had made an impulse buy I would regret, but since that day every reason for owning a Sony for me at least has gone, Roll on Guitar hero 360, VF5, and assassins creed
